We have a juvie in trouble.  Our contact at 10 Exchange investigated reports of a sick bird huddled at the entrance to the building.  It was one of our young guys.  People were walking within five feet of him and he wasn't moving.  He was easily captured with a towel, put into a box and hastily transported to the Raptor Trust.  We will let you know anything we can as soon as we can.  Fingers crossed.  He has been 'on the wing' since mid June.  Last week a kind soul from 101 Hudson saw a juvie perched on 15 Exchange for a very long time and he notified us.  The bird did fly away and we figured it had to be very hungry because it should be hunting on its own by now.  This could be the same bird.

Now I'm feeling sad because I could have gone down last Saturday when I got back from California.

Oh I hope it's something that's easily treatable.

Some folks have been inquiring about Pale Male's fledglings we are currently treating for poisoning. The first one that came in on Sunday has shown much improvement . It has been acting and appearing normal , self feeding aggressively and has become more active each day. We will redo bloodwork after this weekend to check all the levels and make a decision. The second has not recovered nearly as well as its sibling yet . It still appears lethargic at times , eyes closed during the day and head tucked under its wings . It still gets cut up meals twice a day with its medication as it doesn't eat with gusto like we would like to see . It was out there about 5 days longer than its sibling without medication to reverse the effects so has some catching up to do. We will report any changes here as soon as we have anything to report. Thank you all for the support we have received from various contacts we know and many we did not before this time concerned about these yougsters and the rest of our wildlife community as well.

From WINORR

Thanks-I've been wondering how they're doing.  Hopefully, the second one will also show improvement with time.

This year we have 3 pairs of Red-breasted Grosbeaks at our feeders.  They show up here every year in early May-male first then usually a week later the female shows up-and leave around the first part of August.

Has it diminished or is it about the same?  Orion is looking very sleek today.

1 to 2 feedings a day Bonnie. Thought they would stop but DC brought some and soon after Beauty brought in the BIG breakfast.

We were with the watchers for about 4 1/2 hrs. today and it was hot!  I think he made himself "skinny" because of the heat.

So how many are coming?? Any ideas? Usually we know, have a plan going! We having a breakfast??  ???

Is there a place to RSVP?  I will be there Friday evening through late Sunday morning. Can't wait to see everyone (and every falcon) in person!! wave

Usually have a running list of who's coming. What can I bring?? Who's the head honcho?   silly

I've been wondering the same thing.  One week away and no plans?  Is anyone head of this? Breakfast in Aquaduct Park on Saturday?  Bring something?  List of people coming?  Out of towners (and I'm sure locals too) would probably like to know. Carol? Shaky? Any answer would be appreciated.

Not me. I'm out of the loop on this. I won't even be in town Saturday

Locals are too busy watching. I suggest that someone else step up and take charge. Only a day or 2 left to design a t-shirt and upload it to CafePress so people can buy it and express ship it to themselves before they head to Rochester.

Too bad you or anyone in the know didn't say anything before about this.

Too bad you didn't ask sooner. I would have given you the same answer, and you would have had time to step up and make those shirts so everyone wouldn't have to pay express shipping.

What happened to the design team that did the t-shirts in the past?

Both Pale Male and Opera Star, the 3rd fledgling, were both seen yesterday and are doing well. Zena hasn't been seen lately but they say she's been laying low since the kids fledged and that it's not unusual. I remember Lima did the same thing last year

Odd that the 3rd didn't get any poison or mom. Glad they are doing well, thanks.

Everyone was surprised that only 2 were affected-just the luck of the draw. It's said that Pale Male tends to prefer a pigeon diet so probably why he's been around for 21 yrs!

Posted on Loch of the Lowes:   scared blue

Having disappeared for four days following his first flight, Blue 44 returns to the nest and receives a frosty reception from his mum.

Too bad you or anyone in the know didn't say anything before about this. Personally, I wouldn't pay express shipping for a t-shirt now but would have bought one earlier if it had been offered. Is there ever going to be anything offered with Orion's picture on it and Beauty and DC? Would be nice to have something new & up-to-date offered in the store.
