Home is Still Home July 16, 2012 - Toronto - Don Mills
Tracy Simpson Reports:
Thanks to the sharp eyes of Donna Hayes today for catching a view and picture of Quest and one of the juveniles, Blaze, in the nest box today. Although the young have fledged, they and the adults will continue to use the nest box for shelter from the heat and the weather. No matter where you roam, home is home. The same holds true for the peregrines as they continue to use the nest box as a safe home base.

I'm sitting out on my deck yesterday afternoon before the rain came. The birds were enjoying the food at my feeders. All of a sudden, WHOOSH, every bird took off like bullets. I looked up and saw those familiar pointy wings gliding overhead. The falcon was scouting out the area I assume. This year I only have seven pigeons who come regularly to my yard. Pigeon abatement program at the church where they roost. And we have had peregrines in the area for the past year. Maybe the peregrines have a scrape at Sing Sing. Could be.
No, my camera was still packed without a card. Now it is sitting with a card on the kitchen table right next to the deck.
Cool, Bonnie! Jailbirds, huh?

A red-tailed hawk landed on my boss's windowsill (on the 6th floor of the Old Button Factory diagonally across from Kodak Office) right in front of where I sit, facing in. A smaller bird was dive-bombing it, probably because its nest is close by. He/she sat there for at least 10 minutes, until one of my other bosses called me to ask a question and I told her what I was watching. She rushed down and right into my other boss's office, right up to the hawk, at which time the hawk said “yikes!” and it left. Anyway, I’m really glad I was sitting here to see it up close. It looked like a juvie because the coloring wasn’t too defined yet. Nice way to brighten up a Monday. Just wanted to share Sue (Bess) Awesome! I love RTH's!

Has Dot.ca been seen at the nest box or with Orion or Beauty since the banding? I'm a bit concerned.
Dot in PA
He hasn't been seen at the nest box for a few days or DT by watchers who looked for him yesterday. They found him at BS with Pigott this AM. In chat yesterday, they were saying they thought he made a food drop to Beauty but wasn't seen so can't be confirmed. I'm concerned about his lack of interest in Orion and Beauty.
