I'd love to know Beauty's reason for not feeding this baby all day. She is still very much on guard. They snuck up on her...they stole her baby...baby came back but her eggs are still missing... While I can't begin to think like a mother bird, it does seem to me that guarding against further intruders is taking priority in her mind. We know they aren't coming back, but she doesn't. Just my thoughts. There was no reason not to feed him before the banding-that wasn't until almost noon. She's been feeding him early AM. It was so hot today-always the fear of dehydration. Thinking like the human that I am, she might have made a different choice this morning if she knew the rest of the day was going to be taken up with nest defense. But she's a bird-who knows why they do or don't do things at the exact same time every day. Maybe the prey birds slept in this morning for whatever reason. I have to have faith that Beauty knows how to raise a baby bird. Maybe she thought he ate the eggs and didn't need anymore to eat! Lol! Friday the 13th certainly wasn't a good day for this baby!

I really hope they get this baby banded soon. Losing track of her, after all the love we have for her, would be like losing track of Quest.
Time is ticking away! Yeah let's git er done already! Our baby needs a name and bands! Whatever happened to voting on names? Is there a chance that banding won't happen? Beginning to wonder.....

Today is the first day of official fledge-watching at Central Terminal! Alfreda and Wagner are still hunkered down on the ledge below the nestbox. As you can see, the nestbox is a big jump up from the ledge, so they haven't made it back in. I don't remember any previous ledglings at this site ever getting back into the box either. At least it offers some shade for them. Yesterday, at least one parent, usually dad, stayed close, watching them mostly from atop the clock. It seemed the girls were trying to attract his attention by coming out and flapping, "Look at me!" But today, the parents stayed more hidden from their view on higher corners, occasionally coming to visit or doing fly-bys, to entice and encourage the kids. Good luck with fledge watch and may they stay safe!
