Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Our afternoon with the Short Eared Owls

We live about 40 minutes from where several Forum members have been watching Short Eared Owls so I asked on the Forum where they were seeing them. Carol P. sent me the directions and the times to be there so we planned on going out this afternoon to see if we would get lucky. When we got to Church Rd., we went down to where a man was parked on the North side and asked if there had been any sightings. He said none had been seen so far today but yesterday, they saw 5 and the 2 days before, none. We parked, waited and were soon joined by 6 other vehicles-all waiting for the first sighting. After about 20 minutes,we saw the first one come in which was eventually joined by 3 more, giving us a spectacular show! We did get some pictures but it was really hard to capture any good ones. http://tinyurl.com/85tcmez

Good job Kris but take it easy on those heels when you're chasing down hawks! Phil(my home care physical therapist) whom I requested from my last knee replacement left here just a while ago. But as soon as he came in today he told me about the coop that flew right in front of his car on Monday after he left here and whacked a pigeon on Glide Street sending feathers flying. He saw the pigeon land but didn't see if the hawk went back for it as he cranked his neck. I said Phil my boy, you need to stop your car on those rare occasions. And when I saw him this past Monday for the 1st time since my last home therapy he told me it's my fault that every time he goes downtown now he looks for falcons! The word is out to keep your eyes to the sky! Lol, MAK! I took these through the kitchen window so didn't have to go too far but I am getting around pretty good in these cam walkers if I do say so myself!

Things are clear now!!! I was to much happy to have find something in this wonderful world of falcons and I made a mistake. And in english, it's difficulttttttt ....... English is a difficult language, for sure, and we thank you for all your contributions! I get mixed up on all the Falcon relationships all the time-too much for me to keep straight!

I'm confused, I guess. Cabot-Sirocco was Mariah's first mate. You said Victoria was his mother but Penelope is saying Adelaide was a sibling to Victoria and Cabot-Sirocco. Questions-are Victoria and Ponce-Kingsley his parents? Is Adelaide his sister or is she Victoria's sister?
Adelaide is Cabot-Sirocco's sister. Victoria & Pounce-Kingsley are the parents. Very easy to scramble who's who...that's what got me started doing a tree in the first place! I guess I should wait and read the book! Thanks for all you do, Ei!

Thanks! They were taken through our kitchen and dining room windows so I was happy to see they didn't come out too bad. The last, blurry one was taken from the laundry room. I was hoping it would fly back on the deck railing but it took off from there. A while later, it came back and landed on the feeder roof but I couldn't get my camera in time before it left.
