Gemert, October 24 2011

Peregrine falcon S2 has stayed for around a week in a larger area and she finds it fine there. She is still having problems with her wound but she has had after all for 2 weeks very little activity. Stiff muscles, joints and the former break make for complaints, but activity helps with her healing and the complaints hopefully will diminish.

Begin next week she will have another XRay and the vets will determine if she can go to a larger area.

While visiting last Friday we made a short video of S2 and she let us see that she is working on her healing. Because she needs rest for this healing process we didn't want to disturb her too much so the film is short but you can see how it's going with her.

One week from tomorrow, Po will turn 1 year old. We are still working on his birthday surprises, but I hope it will be a fun day for all of us. It is hard to believe he is almost a year old. It has certainly been an eventful year and it has been interesting getting to know our newest little panda. All of our cubs have been different in personality as one would expect. Po seems to have inherited his father’s love of routine and structure and his mother’s indifference to her keepers (unless we have food, of course!). However, he has a unique perspective of his environment. He has been the most cautious and apprehensive of all of our pandas.  He can be playful and silly like his older siblings, but he treats all new things with suspicion until Lun Lun proves otherwise. He typically avoids anything that Lun Lun does not interact with first. As he has gotten older, Po is a little more confident, but we still manage to frighten him (inadvertently, of course!) with novel enrichment items.

We went to see her yesterday and she was walking really well with her walker-better than I ever did when I had my knees done!  Good job, MAK!

I didn't realize the Sheraton building was so narrow-that surprised me.  I also see the Rodgers Center where they hold one of our Buffalo Bills "home" games each year. Sad

Wonderful to hear!  Hope it does OK and I so hope they catch the monster that did such a horrible thing to this poor bird!

I saw a note about this on the WCV chat yesterday-apparently after the article was first posted they were INUNDATED with sweaters.

I saw it on the news tonite and there were piles of sweaters shown! Great cause and response! They look so cute!
