It is 7:50 PM, the temp is 97 degrees! After growing up just south of Rochester, I've been down here (Florida and Alabama) since 1970 (with just a few breaks elsewhere). I have yet to get used to the heat. After 5 days with temps in the 100s, we are forecast to cool down to the mid-90s this week. What we save on severe winter heating bills, we spend on AC. But we don't shovel snow!
You can have it-I can't tolerate it! I'd take cold and snow anytime over the heat! (and we don't shovel snow-got a nice Kubota with a big snow blower for our 120ft driveway!) I'm with you Kris, give me snow anytime and I'm a happy camper. I HATE Summer heat! I LOVE to shovel!!

Tragic news from Jacks other site. First we thought there was one, found out there was two and now one has been found dead Mathew sent me an email and also just posted the news to their site. Jun 6, 2011 - Unfortunate news Around 5PM while walking my dog, I found a juvenile on the ground directly under the ledge. It was not alive, and obviously feel straight down to where I found it. I know from checking earlier this afternoon there were two on the ledge. So, sorry to say, there is now only one. So sorry about this, Carly. Fly free, little one.

Maybe I should have clarified by saying sad for "me" instead of "us". Yes, "ups" to all the other happenings (Mr. T was never identified because he was unbanded-that was just a name given to him, I think, by MAK) but I was really looking forward to Beauty and Archer's little ones. It's also hard to accept that Beauty no longer has a mate but hopefully this winter or next spring she will find a new one. It would be nice if Mr. T reappeared-he was cute and really liked B!
Actually Joyce gave Mr. T his name. T = Tiercel. I knew that "T" meant tiercel but wasn't sure who gave him the name.

Wait, did I miss something? Has Beauty rejected Archer for good? Or am I misreading?
No Carly, not at all. I think it's because Archer is spending most of his time at KP with Unity and Beauty is being left out. It is sad to watch her watch for him at the nest. Carly-Archer hasn't had much to do with Beauty since the last egg was disposed of. The only time he's coming downtown is to check on where Beauty is, to let her know he's watching her, and then it's back to KP-no bonding, no nestbox visits, no echupping, no tandem hunting- it's all Unity and KP. He even is sleeping over there now-not spending his nights on Xerox with Beauty like he always did. It's all very sad...Some watchers have said that they think it's because there are eggs supposedly over there still and that he feels drawn to Unity because of that or they might be trying to 2nd clutch. Who knows for sure what turned him against his mate of over 2 years.

Hard to view these pictures of B at the nest. This time of the year, that box should be bustling with babies getting ready to be banded or to fledge. I think it was about this time last year that Callidora and Jemison were getting banded, and preparing to fledge. So happy that some of the falcon team will be watchers this weekend in Toronto.
A sad time for our Beauty and for us. But like I said...somewhere, Kris, this year has had its ups and downs. Mr. T, Unity -- being identified. UP! Quest is the big one for me. UP! I' ve followed her with fascination since she was an egg. Her own little one? UP! Linn identified? UP! Raising young? UP! Stormin' taking over a nest? UP! And now all the other grand eyases of M and K hatching, fledging, breeding in Cananda? UP! The watchers going up to Toronto to watch Rhea Mae's young 'uns fledge? UP! It's been an emotional roller coaster, and yes, our own nest box is hard to watch, but there is balance in nature, and I keep telling myself we are learning a lesson here in balance. Right now, not so "up" but it's coming. Maybe I should have clarified by saying sad for "me" instead of "us". OK, yes it was warm , and I was snoozing , oh and by the way, ee-chuping makes a wonderful alarm clock. My texting skills are not the best to begin with on my cheap cheap cell phone so, V & U are right next to each other so, well U became V and KO became KP and well, you get the idea. I know it can get warm out there watching Falcons while sitting in the sun. Whatever happened to the canopy that Kodak gave to the Falcon Watchers to sit under out of the sun? I know it was given to the watchers in 2008-just before the nest box was taken down that same year.

Hi guys! Although you probably didn't know I was missing, I'm back! With a shiny new 'puter...hard drive gave out on the old one. Thankfully I saw it coming & did a full backup Friday night so I'll just be missing a few pictures from Saturday. Now to get used to this keyboard-it's tiny, but there isn't a jack on this to plug in my old one...might just have to get a USB converter...
Anyway...off to get firefox set up...later!
I wondered where you were. Welcome back and congrats on the new computer!
