When we were Maui a few years ago, we were on a whale watch when 2 males that had been pursuing a female and her calf took an interest in our boat. It's against the law there for boats to approach them so the engines were stopped and we sat waiting as they came alongside the boat. They both started going under it-coming up on one side and then going under to come up on the other side. They would swim alongside the boat, come up, turn on their side and pound their fin against the water. At times, we could have reached down and almost touched them, they were so close! This lasted for about 20 minutes until they got tired of us and went on their way. It was thrilling but kind of unnerving at the same time wondering if they were going to get under the boat and decide to surface but it was the most thrilling time of our lives to see these huge mammals so close up. We saw many Humpbacks the 2 weeks we were there as it was the time of the year when they come to those waters to birth their calves. To see one breach out of the water is breathtaking!

Can anyone else see better on this shot? It looks like the rear egg may be damaged from the piece of rock.
Pretty sure it's just a feather I was thinking feather also Me too! That feather's been floating around the NB for a few days. I've seen it up against an egg a few times then it blows to another area.

Those are beautiful pictures Someone once took the picture and blacked him out, making a card of it or something similar. I cant seem to find this picture! I'll patiently wait. Either version would do, although I would prefer the original if someone can find it. Tiff-I know the one you mean-pretty sure it was Carol P took the picture-not sure if it was Zephyr...I'll have to hunt around Tiff-you mean the 1st one 2nd row by Carol, right? That's the one I thought she meant too. Carol also did a B/W of it and used it for her avatar for a while. I have it somewhere but can't find it.

who exactly is Zephyr? family wise i mean---a most beautiful bird
Zephyr is an offspring of Mariah and Kaver-b.2008. He's also Archer's uncle. In the Learn More box above, there's a History section which shows the Family Tree of Mariah/Kaver-Archer/Beauty.
