Third try to feed the baby and he's not interested. That's not good. I've been home 4.5 hours and he shows no interest in food. Just sitting up with head straight up and eyes closed or like laying straight down in the gravel Looks like this one isn't going to make it either..so very sad for her.

Baby is up against the wall again - he's so big I think it's more comfortable to lean against the wall as there isn't much room under mom or dad anymore. Cadence on duty..what will she do..she's looking at the baby and then back at the eggs and how to reconcile the two. Now she's thinking...thinking... ...and she's found a middle ground. Eggs in front of her near her breast and her tail end is covering baby by the wall

I can't believe there haven't yet been any postings for 2017 for the Utica cam. At least I couldn't find a new topic for it.
Anyway, here goes. Astrid and Ares have four babies this year. It looks like as in past years, they won't be banded unless they get grounded and sustain an injury that requires rehab. However, they have been named. Here's a post from today from Facebook:
Our chicks have names! A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated. After careful consideration of over 400(!) name submissions, the committee chose the following names: Chick #1 is Spirit, first submitted by Mary Lynn Linstruth. Chick #2 is Maximus, submitted by Betty Blanchard. Chick #3 is Zander, submitted by Carol Farrell. And, finally, Chick #4 is Luna, first submitted by Theresa White. Some names were submitted more than once, but, as always, the winner if the name is chosen is the first person to submit the name. Winners will be awarded their t-shirts on Saturday, June 17th during fledge watch. We will contact winners individually with additional information.
I've followed them on FB and have been waiting for banding info...wonder why they don't band them there?

You may not want to watch now, it's dawning on her that the baby is gone and she's picking at it I hope they go up tomorrow and removed those old eggs and the baby's body... The big baby can't seem to get comfortable at all, the sooner they get up there and check on him the better. The egg with the double shell on it is turning black, a dead body and rotting eggs isn't good for a baby to be exposed to. I hope so too and I hope she doesn't feed the dead one to the live eyas.. might be diseased.. who knows.

4.58 pm and shift change. Dad looks puzzled about the lost baby..baby one is up and looking for food. Baby is jumping up to him for food and of course he has none. Hopefully he gave Cadence some and she is prepping it for a feed. He is pretending to feed baby now. *sigh*
I saw him "feed" the babies a couple nights ago..he had nothing to feed them. This guy is clueless..poor provider from what I've seen. I wouldn't be surprised if that baby didn't starve to death. Cadence tries but I saw a feed the other night where the smallest got hardly anything during a feed. The bites were either too large and Cadence ate it or too small and it stuck to Cadence's beak. She left with a lot of meat still on the bird and baby was so hungry. I haven't watched much since because I just felt something bad was going to happen.
