We are aware that Hamilton and Burr-D are out of the box at Great Spirit Bluff. The two falcons are around 28 days of age today and we have decided not to try to bring them back to the box. Michelle and Newman will find them and care for them until fledge, as we saw in 2013 and 2014. We will see if we can locate them with the camera, but we have no intention of going to the base of the cliff, which could drive them deeper into the tangle below. We are hopeful for both little falcons and will keep everyone posted.

We're getting questions on the box design and production at Great Spirit Bluff. Are the falcons falling because the perches are poorly designed? In short, no - but you can read more about the issue here: http://bit.ly/2qNSRsJ

John is thinking about ways to design the replacement box that will minimize problems with black flies. We are about 40% of the way through our banding season and it looks like black flies and weather plagued impacted many of our wilder sites this year. We'll talk about that later this week.

STATLER CITY - 5/30/2017  4 Little Peregrines banded by  Connie Adams, DEC Wildlife Biologist 3 boys and 1 girl. They were named for Buffalo streets: Franklin, Elmwood, Washington and Pearl. How great is that?

Love the names!  Congrats to Ralphie and Alice!   

Stepped away for a few, mw said food may have came in and she fed them again.

   

6.27 pm and dad is in.  Well he came in and then left and is now back again.  I hope he got some food for Cady.  And he's back out again...strange bird.  And he came running back in, probably heard the kids crying.  Or as mw said maybe Cady saw him and yelled at him to get back in there 

I thought he was experienced...he acts as clueless as she does!  I hope they get fed soon!

I just saw Cadence pull out a big piece of yolk out of a shell and eat it..no sign of any hatch that I've seen
yet.

Barb Baldinger confirmed today that Screech (DotCa's older sister - born 2008 to Jack & Angel) is still the resident female at the AT&T Tower in Pontiac, Michigan.  She and her mate have 3 offspring this year.  The year she was born was the first year I met and helped Frank out with his fledge watch.

Just back from the Dr to read the great news...so happy for our Cadence and NJ dad!   

The pipped egg is Cady's I think...though in this light both are dark ...I'm looking at Beth's photo on bCAW and in this light both the front ones are dark but my gut says it's Cady's egg..we'll see.

I thought it was way past the window for the former female's eggs to hatch?

2 eyases have been banded and returned to a clean nest box!
