Updated file attached: "2012-2002 Rochester Falcons - Names & Bands"

This file has been updated to reflect the 2012 Rochester Falcons and site locations.  Note - as of February 2013 Beauty no longer has blue/red tape on the USFW silver band on the right leg.

Files attached to previous posts have been removed.

Looks like it's gone Joyce

Donna, I was just posting the closeup at the same time when I saw your post.  Now we don't have 2 legs to confirm. Soon the same thing will happen to Pigott's right band. At least she is black/black and Beauty is black/green.

I liked the tape! Oh well, it happens!

The tape makes it so much easier to identify, especially when other birds enter the territory.

We are getting close to the start of the 2013 season.

Looks like Beauty has lost the blue-red-blue tape on her right USFW band or it has totally faded.

That's fantastic. Congratulations!

Nice pic Pat! Thanks for sharing.  Maybe B chased this bird into the building and that's why she looks unscathed.

Whoopee over $700 + $1,000 bonus and climbing.
 falala

I love sharing to good causes!  Thanks everyone for considering Wild Wings Inc. as well.  You know they have 4 falcons species - American kestrel, merlin, peregrine falcon, and skaker-gyrfalcon.

Sorry no $500 bonus from this donor yet, but perhaps my chances will be better later tonight (if all the other donors go to bed early - LOL).

By the way, how could we not get the extra bonus, with the luck of Beauty sitting on Mercury's money bag!

YAY...Rfalconcam ROCs!

How do we know if our donation gets the $500 bonus for our charity?

9 days and counting until midnight 12.12.12.  My two favorite organizations are in ROC the Day: Rfalconcam  yahoo and Wild Wings Inc.  clap

Sign up for a reminder - http://www.roctheday.org/

Every hour one lucky ROCstar (donor) will be randomly chosen to give an extra $500 bonus to the charity of their choice. 24 chances to win!

Plus...Rochester Area Community Foundation we'll be checking every two hours to see what registered organizations has the most ROCstar donors during that time period. The organizations with the most unique donors during each two-hour period will get an extra $1000 bonus, and there are 12 up for the grabs! (Agencies can only win this bonus once.)

I uploaded MAK's pics from her Shutterfly albums and adjusted the dark ones. I compared pics with my Brain K. Wheeler "Raptors" book.  I am no expert, but I love doing detailed research.  I think MAK may be seeing more than one - a juvenile and an adult female.

My conclusion is that she is seeing a Ferruginous Hawk, a dark intermediate morph...based on the following (the specific identifiers to Ferruginous Hawks are in red. Red-tail Hawks don't have these species traits):

  • large buteo 20-26", wingspan 53-60" (60"=5 ft)
  • brown head including forehead and throat
  • black bill
  • yellow cere (hard to see until pic is saturated)
  • long yellow gape that extends halfway point under eye (gape is the yellow line of the beak when closed)
  • white mottling on chest
  • wingtips shorter than tail
  • white undersurface of the tail

Why do I have a sour taste in my mouth towards hunters...and this was a waterfowl hunter.  Probably shot this protected species by accident, but couldn't own up to it.

It looks like I had 3 adults and one juvie in my pics from yesterday.  Wouldn't it be nice if a male could link up with the lonely female.

Good one Ei!  I like the still pic of the two of them in the nest box. Thinking about using that for update business cards.

Does anyone in our group have the USFW band number?
