Interesting...early activity at the nestbox. Male is hanging close to nestbox this morning.
6:55 Unity had the prey at on north corner of the platform, then she left. 7:24-7:27 Unity was in the nest box and the male on the north corner of the platform. 7:40 Unity returned to north corner of the platform. 7:44 Falcon on top of Cam 1 (not sure who). 7:51 Male back on north corner of the platform looking up again. Bet Unity is up above. 7:53 Male on perch outside nestbox. 7:53-7:54 Male on nestbox ledge, but did not step inside. 7:54-8:12 Male on Cam 4
This male is smitten with Unity and the Rochester location.

From Birddude Brian: Am report: Mr W was under NE wing, flew off, can't find him. No sign of U. May be DT later. 10:54am
Mr. W? Mr. Wonderful? Why that name? Cuz it's not Archer. Brian thinks Beauty and Archer are boring and tells me on a regular basis. He likes to get a reaction out of me and I always stick up for them. Shaky teases Carol about Rhea Mae a lot too:) I texted Brain and here is his answer: "He just looks like a wonderful pefa to me. I bet he'd be a great dad."

Hi everyone!
Brian (aka Bird Dude) is predicting an early arrival for Archer in 2012. His prediction is Thursday FEB 23rd. That's based on the winter season that we've had in the US and if Archer migrated to the southern states. Of course, Brian says all bets are off if Archer migrated to Central or South America.
What do you think?
First sightings of Archer's arrival: Sat March 12, 2011 (138256); Sun March 21, 2010 (109130); Sat March 21, 2009 (95394)
Notice a pattern? Archer has always arrived back on a weekend, and his arrival date includes a 1 and 2

Hi everyone! I went through yesterdays pics of our snowflake watch with the female pefa eating downtown. I wish I could give you some clear shots with a positive ID, but the weather didn't cooperate. I am posting 2 photos of the pefa taking off with her prey after she ate. Also a comparison shot of Unity on May 8, 2011 in almost the same position with the female we observed yesterday. Pictures are on Picasa and you can download to play with if you want. As Carol indicated...we are starting to believe it is Unity. I can see similar comparisons in the malar stripe (mustache) and also a colored band on the right leg. We'll just have to wait for a more positive ID, but I feel it is Unity.

Sorry to report that the downtown Snowy Owl is deseased. The owl was spotted near noon on Monday in the exact same location as seen on Sunday, but it was no longer sitting upright. GVAS was contacted and the snowy was retrieved.
It was given to our local expert who monitors the Snowy Project and bands these birds when they migrate south from the arctic. It was relayed back to us that the snowy was an unbanded adult female maybe 6-7 years old. There were no outward signs of injury and may have suffered some kind of trauma.
So sad...Fly free beautiful bird.

Sabrina/Valiant did what peregrine falcons do...
He fledged... He learned skills & played in Rochester, NY... He grew into a beautiful adult tiercel... He found a mate "Zanar" from Ottawa, Canada... They nested on the Canadian side of the Prescott/Ogdensburg Bridge over the St. Lawrence River... They produced a successful youngun... He survived 6 years of contributing to peregrine recovery... And lastly flying free - over the rainbow.
Sabrina/Valiant is part of the Rochester Legacy and now we look forward to a continuing legacy in 2012 for our Rochester Falcons.
