In light of Ei's comments...
After talking with Mark Nash yesterday, he explained that all of Southern Ontario has experienced a lower than normal nest count. Some with no eggs, others with failed nestsites. Apparently this has been documented previously, that the change in weather has a major effect on the birds. Even falconers who breed and raise young, have experienced the same in a captive environment this year. Mark mentioned the mild winter, very rainy and cold spring. He said other factors can affect the nesting, but when this occurs over an entire region, it is most likely Mother Nature.

Aafke asked me to make a card for you...but I fell asleep. What else is new! Aafke wishes you a very Happy Birthday because she wouldn't be around. Of course I wish you a a big Peregrine HUG! Wonder if anyone knows what a peregrine hug is...Well it's that warm and snuggly feeling when you know you are loved. How many times have we seen that with an eyas and its parent.. Have a wonderful day! Maybe a pip on your birthday. Joyce

Good News! I notified the Buffalo DEC that I am 99.9% positive "Jean" from Syracuse (2008) is the female at the Buffalo grain elevators along the lake shore. I think she has been in that area for more than a year because I once spotted a yellow band on a falcon flying around there (hoping it was Zephyr). The is no yellow band anymore, but I was able to photograph different views and piece together black /green, 98/V.On Tuesday morning May 10th I stopped by hoping to see the new nestbox occupied. Then I went over to the abandoned grain elevator and found a falcon sitting on the far back roof. I was there from 6:30am to 8am taking pictures of this falcon while it remained in the same place. I sat on a rock waiting and hoping for this bird to move its legs. Finally, I saw the silver band and then the black/green on left leg. It wasn't until I saw a photo posted by Sage on facebook, that prodded me to look at my photos. I removed the memory card from my camera, and never got around to viewing my pictures. It didn’t occur to me that I might have caught a band ID. See photos at http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150183421740986.308726.666525985&l=57895765d0

Since Beauty started incubating late, mid July sounds very good. Plus if we have babies at Kodak Park, they will be even later than that. Sounds like a plan!
Patti, that's terrible...2 years in a row not making it. You'll be missed.

Hi gang,
Remember our falcon watches in Irondequoit this winter while watching the Ibay pefa? Remember the transmitter gull we saw? I couldn't find where Carol P posted the follow-up. Sorry if this is a repeat, but in case you didn't hear...Carol found out that the transmitter gull made his way home to Montreal at midnight on April 11th.
