Joyce, have you shown Dan these pictures?
It sure looks like a split wing to me. And it would fit-- Mariah has been in Irond. Fingers crossed.
No, I only posted it here last night, hoping someone will get a second sighting. Brain hasn't even seen the pics yet either.

Rochester Falcons / Falcon Watches / Peregrine Falcon on Irondequoit Bay
|
on: 12-May-10, 04:30:46 AM

On Monday evening May 10th, Kathy O, Brain H and I watched an actionless falcon on Old Changing Scenes. We discussed the loss of a couple of eagle's nests due to the high winds in surrounding areas, and wondered about the Irondequoit Bay eagles. Kathy headed home, and Brian and I checked it out. The eagles were flying, one approached the nest, and we confirmed everything was normal. As we were watching the eagles, Brian yelled, "I see a falcon." Brian pointed and I got my camera focused on what I thought he was looking at, and clicked away. At 7:46 pm we caught a glimpse of a what we thought was a peregrine flying across the middle of the Bay from west to east. The sighting only lasted a minute. Most of the shots of the bird were silhouetted, but the last few definitely confirmed we indeed had a peregrine falcon. The question remains, is it anyone we know? Album: Irondequoit Bay Peregrine Falcon 5/10/10As a follow up, Kathy O and Brian H went to check out the Irondequoit Bay Bridge Tuesday afternoon. They checked the bridge from several locations and report there is no place for a scrape on the bridge. They spoke to someone on the dock south of the bridge who said he knows what a peregrine looks like, and that he saw one in the morning. Brian wonders...Is there a possibility that there is a natural nestsite on the bay's cliffside? ~Joyce

Thanks for replying. Our communication through the forum worked. Brian and I thought it was Archer, but his back was to us, and we couldn't see the white feather on the side. You and others will be an asset when the fledglings are getting ready to leave the nest.

Donna - That's a very well written article! Where did it come from? Is Mark Kandel in Avon NY? Is he connected with the Rochester Pefas as well?
Sage - Wow, so much happening in Buffalo. Buffalo really needs a local falconwatcher group like we have in Rochester and in Syracuse. They only have the one nestsite too, which now has 4 chicks.
Love the streaming video - but how do we capture the images we want to save? Your albums of the images are great to have.

Jim P -
Are you the person that was in contact with Lennoxman? I see Quest periodically returns to that location, and was wondering...
1. Have you been in contact with them? 2. Has Lennoxman or any of the workers seen any signs of Quest, dead prey, etc? 3. Have the Osprey returned?

Some of you may remember that Susan C geocached a small peregrine falcon keychain in honor of Skye in January 2007. Her goal was for Skye to wander around the world, as peregrine falcons do, and eventually have Skye return to Rochester, NY, where she was born. The journey started in the Phillipines, and 3 years later Skye finally made it home. She is now in a cache in Greece Canal Ponds Park. Hooray!! http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=565374CONGRATUALTIONS SUSAN!!!

Even thought is was a couple days ago, she knows where to go to find other birds...a bird sanctuary nearby.
She is a very smart bird! Mate.....She don't need no D*&% Mate! I guess not for this year's nesting...but I'm positive she will find one for next year. Hopefully then the pair will settle down in a nice country-like location. After all, Quest seems to be a rural girl at heart.
