Rochester Falcons / Satellite Tracking / Re: Quest

As Carol mentioned under Twitter, we keep missing Quest by one day! At least we got to see her environment - lots of water, islands, sandbars, shorebirds, stacks, supply of pigeions, and a nestbox if she wants to claim it. All she needs now is a mate. Unfortunately on Sunday there was a very heavy fog and we couldn't see anything until late morning. In the afternoon we got to see a red-tailed hawk flying around the stacks, and we were wishing it was Quest. On our road trip we saw: - 27 red-tailed hawks
- 1 juvenile bald eagle
- 2 kestrels
- 3 GIANT field crows
Here is a link to the Lennox Brochure. The photo of the stacks were taken from the west side and you can't see the nestbox because it is on the east side. Note, the osprey nest is on the east side as well. It will be interesting if Quest decides to claim the nestbox in the same area. http://www.opg.com/power/fossil/brochures/lennoxbrochure.pdfPictures to come soon. Joyce

Joyce, I take it if we go to Buffalo the UB spot is not a "sit down on the bench and watch for the falcons" area like the bridge, etc? Suzanne
Sorry, no one has installed benches yet. But, if you have chairs, there are a couple places you can watch from. The closest view is in the maintenance parking lot.

I'm asking the same question. The last time I saw a peregrine falcon was on Sunday Nov. 8th. I thought I sent a phone tweet, but I found it in my saved messages and never relayed my watch. After the watcher's get together, we waited for Mariah to show up. No Luck. Brian and I headed downtown around 4:00 pm. We found Beauty on the Communication Tower. Yea, a facon fix! She flew from one side of the platform to the other, and then she disappeared. She was on a girder beneath the platform and it was so hard to see her. Her head bobbed up and down and she was eating. This must be a cache location. She flew off when the sun had set. Joyce

I think it is supposed to be one Carol P and one Carla P-- I think
Jeanne - Carol P (2) drives the bright yellow car and comes to watch the falcons on the bridge. She is the one that was afraid to come on to the bridge and finally ventured out to join us on the benches. You'll know her when you see her. She responded on Kfalconcam.

Hope you have a really great day. Between Niagara Falls, Buffalo and maybe another trip to Rochester, you should be able to get in a few good falcon fixes. Hope I can get to see you out and about this coming year.

I'm not planning to go on that trek...nope, definitely not...
Patti
I don't know why not... since you aren't afraid to bungee jump, what's a little walk on the edge? I am amazed at how fast this fella was moving. Joyce

Suzanne - I haven't had the time to check them out, but I should try to check them out. According to Buffalo watcher Sage, she spotted the UB peregrines (Smoky and BB) yesterday. She posted a photo of BB at http://pefas.blogspot.com/I don't have any status updates on the falcons at the Statler, or the Central Terminal. If Birdmusic takes a trip into downtown Buffalo, maybe she can let us know. Joyce
