Hey Jeanne - Just put Bentley and Mariah out more frequently. Since I've let Abby and Casey out at unpredictable times including during the night, I don't have any feline visitors anymore. It just might be the double scent of two dogs. Who knows, the cat might equate entering your back yard with an unwelcome predator. The squirrels are not that smart!
I've heard there are ultrasound deterrents, but I don't know anything about them.

Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: For anyone checking for falcons at the old psychiatric center

Since we are supposed to be politically correct ( ahem!) describing the Elmwood Ave. property, I'll refer to the old center as the "building next to the UofR staff parking lot."
I regularly check the property on the weekends and have seen nothing as yet. If Zephyr stayed in the area, maybe he'll return again. We did see different falcons there in late winter/early spring last year. You never know, so check the roof top as you drive by.
JoyceEdit: corrected RIT to UofR

Hopefully "Friendly" Talon Tagging!! When someone yelled falcons flying by Chase (tall white-column building near Midtown...Brian, Dan, Larry, Dawn, and I watched as three appeared and two were talon tagging. It looked more like a "get out of my territory" move, and nothing aggressive. I picked my camera off the bench and was only able to catch 2 specks in the sky. They looked to be the same size, with one was chasing the other to the west. ~ Joyce

Amazing...I drove all over downtown and I even looked at Widows Peak, but I only saw one falcon. Maybe I was seeing more than one falcon, but I only saw one at a time. At 5:30 I had one falcon on OCS who flew west and I assumed it was the same falcon I found on the top of the Communication Tower. I watched it take off and fly south. I went looking and found only one falcon on the Court House Tower (which I call the Jail Tower in my tweets). I didn't have one on the outside of the Tower as in Lou's pics, but I had one on the edge of the main frame of the tower and then it moved inside. I went over to Kodak and up Lake Ave to Tops and probably missed seeing anything on Widows Peak.
Congratulations Lou...you got a picture of my car in your photo waiting at the stop light. I enlarged it, and you can barely see one of my dogs standing on the middle console looking out the front windowshield.

I was just posting confirmation at the same time, Lou. It is definitely a juvie red-tailed hawk. I have an exact picture in my book "Raptors of Eastern North America" by Brian Wheeler that looks like this hawk. There are so many variations of RTH juvies, but I'm convinced because they are seen in that area, and the sightings of squirrel.
I wrote to YNN to comment. Joyce

Dragon Slayer in Isaura's Tree! Wet paint and wet head.
I don't get it? It's a riddle. What sits in trees and slays dragons? I think I got it...a bird who goes after dragonflies. Knowing the gorge...is the Dragon Slayer a Belted Kingfisher? But I still don't get the "wet paint"?
