Killing barred owls to help the recovery of spotted owls? Dumb! These people need to take a lesson from the IWS and Friends of the Island Fox ( http://www.islandfox.org/ ) on how to completely remove an invasive predator species. IWS, CA FWS, and FIF participated in the removal of all the Golden Eagles on the Channel Islands as part of the recovery program for the foxes and no one had to "get a shotgun". They were trapped and relocated back on the mainland. And, as a result of this relocation program, bald eagles have returned to the islands - and we've watched their hatches! Judi

I was at Medley center and I saw the silohuette of a very large bird eating something on the ground. I drove closer and I saw it was a big redtail hawk. I drove back to work, got my camera and went back. the hawk flew into a tree and finally I got to see what she was eating. It was a seagull. pretty amazing!
I wonder if this was Dana's RTH and Gull??? I was just wondering the same thing...sure looks like it!

Unfortunately, lead poisoning in condors, and other vultures, is the leading cause of death (microtrash is a biggie but lead poisoning is #1). Our health center is the primary care center for condors that have been released. We have the best in the field taking care of them but sometimes, no matter how hard they try, the birds don't make it...and all because some idiot human is either too stupid or too stubborn to comply with the hunting laws and buy non-lead center shot ammunition. Makes me sooo !!!

I think Mariah is playing hide and seek with us! And we wonder why Quest does it Which makes me wonder whether Mariah travels around as much as her daughter does. We don't know how far away she has gone when we don't see her for a while. Paul I agree...good point Paul! This is the time of year when Mariah has always been sparingly seen. So a sighting of her is very welcome news!

To all of you wonderful folks out there who love not only "our falcons" but all of nature...who are there day or night when one of us needs cheering up, a hand to hold, a hug...I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving full of lots of good food, friends and family...
Here's a little ditty that a good friend just sent me...enjoy!<a href=" http://www.wondercliparts.com" target="_blank"> TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING, BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP. I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS, I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.
THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED - THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE, BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT. TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION, THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION. SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR, AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE. GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES, PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES. I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND, 'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND. I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY, WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE. BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES.... HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.
MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY, MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP. MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP. MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS. MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE, MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!<a href=" http://www.wondercliparts.com" target="_blank">
