Last night Don and I attended a lecture on Crows...okay, so what does that have to do with the Peregrine Fund you ask.  Well, turns out the speaker had worked for the Peregrine Fund in Idaho and was introduced by the director of a local nature preserve who also had worked for the Peregrine Fund.  Small world!

The big thing we learned was that those working in the Peregrine Fund team consider the world of birds as being divided into two: raptors and raptor food!

On our way to Rochester early Saturday morning, Don and I stopped to check out the Bald Eagle nest.  One adult was sitting high on the side of the nest, while the other flew off to get grasses.  It looked as though the adult was perhaps feeding young, but we could not see a head.  Twice an adult flew off to get grass and a stick for the nest.  How awesome, since the adult flew so close over our heads!

Yesterday someone on another list reported seeing fluff in the nest!  Sounds like we have at least one juvie...yeah!!

My friend who lives in the San Francisco Bay area, and who I have converted to a bird/crow/falcon watcher sent me this link about the 5 new peregrines who hatched.

Don and I went to check the Mudlock Bald Eagles yesterday.  She was sitting high on the side of the nest, so we think at least one egg has hatched.  She also kept fiddling with something in the nest.

We checked the other Bald Eagle nests in and near the refuge and it looks as though several of them must have hatched eggs because the adults sit high on the side!

The whole area was very active yesterday with both adult and juvenile Bald Eagles flying around.  Lots of Osprey have returned and were cleaning out their nests from the winter debris.

Once again this year we are tracking the Bald Eagles pairs at the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge and all seem to be sitting on eggs.  Last the Mudlock pair mated and built and rebuilt, but never had eggs, this year they have been sitting on eggs for almost two weeks now.  Last weekend we watched the switching of egg sitter at Mudlock.

You're right Ei!  I've followed them for years, and yes, Mariah and their female were generally in synch with each other.  I guess now it's new female, new routine for them.  Meanwhile, when it Archer going to show up for us?!
