In observance of Earth Hour, Rfalconcam will turn off the cameras in the nest box for one hour starting at 8:30 PM EDT.

(Putting this on the calendar now before I forget.)

Earth Hour will be observed in Rochester tonight at 8:30 PM EDT. As in past years, Rfalconcam will be shutting off the nest box cameras for that hour.

There's a few minutes delay between when tweets go out and when they show up on the forum. Hmm, is it twitters engineers or Rfalconcams!?  

Twitter's. They put a cap on how on how many requests for tweets you can make per hour. Exceed the limit, and they shut you off for an hour. Yarak checks every 5 minutes. If checked any more often, the limit would be exceeded.

If Twitter ever wants to eliminate the cap, tweets will show up in the Forum in less than a minute. But then again, who checks the Forum every minute?

Actually, when things are cooking and I'm at work, I do. But I do follow twitter directly when I need real time info...but the kindle twitter app is WAY slow to update...

Forums are not meant for real time updates. The fact that ours echos tweets is an exception to the rule.

The Twitter web page and good twitter apps are the best places to get tweets in real time. Of course, you have to know ahead of time which Twitter members to follow or what hashtag they are using if you want to get those tweets. The beauty of our forum is that all of this is taken care of for you. You don't even need a twitter account. The tradeoff is you might have to wait 5 minutes to see a new tweet (after refreshing the page).

Something came up, and I'm going to have to postpone the upgrade until 10 PM.

When Annette said Both were at nest and Courtship, I'm like.....um no!! Then 45 sec later, they showed up! Strange how she sees them in Germany before I do here!! LOL  Thanks Annette!!

Could it be the difference between an Internet service link designed by German engineers and one slapped together by union workers in New Jersey?

The Rfalconcam website needs a performance upgrade to handle the increased traffic associated with the start of breeding season. The website will be unavailable for a short time starting at 9 PM Sunday. If there is significant activity at the nest box at that time, the site will remain available, and the upgrade will be rescheduled.

Please note that during the downtime the video streams and associated social stream will still be available by accessing them directly from the Ustream website.
