They remind me of Smokey from Lost.
5582  Other Nature Related Information / Other Nature Web Cams / Re: Lily, the Black bear Cam on: 15-Jul-10, 08:21:17 AM

This is an annual (or semi-annual) event specifically designed for small local non-profits which use the Internet, so it seems to me that Rfalconcam would have a good chance if it is possible to enter the next time they have it. Read all about it on Lily the Black Bear's Facebook page! clap

With the addition of streaming video and improvements to reliability, hopefully Rfalconcam will be in a better position to compete for Internet nature-watching eyeballs next time.
5583  Rochester Falcons / Rfalconcam Website News / Re: The Archive Viewer's New "Like" Feature on: 15-Jul-10, 08:13:53 AM

Hey Shaky...just trying to figure out the purpose of this feature...is there a way to view pictures that have been tagged, either by me or others?

Not yet.

This is more for the purpose of keeping good pictures online. We have a finite amount of storage space for our archive. There isn't room for every single one of the millions of pictures captured by our cameras. Some of them need to be moved offline to make room for new pictures that are captured every minute of every day. The problem is deciding which ones to keep online and which ones to move offline. Our staff isn't big enough to go through all images and tag the keepers. Besides, who is to say that what we decide to keep online is what you or someone else would want to keep? Why not make it more democratic and let everyone decide? Hence the "Like" button.
5584  Rochester Falcons / Rfalconcam Website News / The Archive Viewer's New "Like" Feature on: 14-Jul-10, 11:29:42 PM
To keep better track of the really good pictures in the Rfalconcam Archive, a "Like" button has been added to the Archive Viewer. When you are going through the archive and see a picture you like, click on the button to tag the picture as a good one.

We're trying to get a rough count of the number of people for breakfast. Post here if you will be attending.

TH's is a good choice.

In the past, we did the breakfast on Sunday so people who came in on Saturday didn't miss it. However, we had a more predictable situation back then when we could plan on meeting within walking distance of Kodak tower and the pedestrian bridge. We need to be more flexible this year.

Smaller, less formal tailgate breakfasts on both days would give us the most flexibility.

7:00 am - Sighting from Parking Lot D - One Falcon on top arm of Frontier communication tower, NE arm.

^ a parking lot near Kodak tower.

A tailgate breakfast is an option for both Saturday and Sunday. We'd park wherever the falcons are those mornings.

If your cell phone has texting capability,  set it up to follow the watchers on Twitter before you leave home.

You can also ask to use your hotel's business center if it has one. The will be at least one computer in there that has Internet access. You can read the forum from there. Public libraries have free Internet access too. The Rochester downtown library is just across the Genesee River from the Times Square building, and there are library branches in all the suburbs. Check locations and times online.

Be sure to check the Twitter topic before leaving your hotel. This will usually give you a better idea of where the falcons and falcon watchers are located. Then use the Falcon Landmarks map to find that location.

Wow. That's skinny but sounds like a fun challenge. I'll give it a try!

If you leave room for the logo on the right, it's only 13:3.
5592  Anything Else / Totally OT / Re: Colorama Exhibit on: 10-Jul-10, 09:27:58 AM
The 10:3 aspect ratio of the Colorama is close to the 16:3 aspect ratio of our Rfalconcam banner. Hmmm.... An opportunity for a falcon colorama slide show at the top of every page?

Don't use the archive viewer to look at the latest picture. Use the View all Cameras page.

Still broken but now showing something more interesting than solid black.
