1801  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcons History / Re: Carol P's Blast from the Past Falcon Watch Reports on: 11-Feb-15, 04:36:02 PM
I remember that day well-we did a lot of walking to find Calidora. It was such a relief when Larry reported that he found her-there were lots of high fives and cheering. It took the rest of us a long time, even with Larry coaching us to find her because she blended in so well. I have much respect for Larry to have spotted Cali up on that jail roof.  Grin

It's never a good situation when building repairs need to be done where wildlife have nests. We know this all too well from when Kodak gave Mariah and Kaver the boot to repair the Kodak Office Tower.  Sad

Thanks for sharing Bobbie! I found it very soothing to watch the bees and hear the birdies chirping. I especially liked the guys red boots!  wave
1807  Other Nature Related Information / Raptor Web Cams / Re: Potted Plant Owls are back in Johannesburg on: 10-Feb-15, 10:08:45 AM
Our surviving chick fledged with its parents, and we are once again alone until next breeding season. As ever, it was special having the family here again, and wonderful that two healthy chicks spent a few weeks with us.
The recent attack and death of one of the chicks brought home how dangerous it is for these owls to nest in our built-up suburban area. They have all sorts of things to contend with - cars, electric fences, dogs, cats, rat poisons, and of course the evil human being as well (maiming and hurting owls for pleasure or superstition).
Again, I am reminded to make every opportunity count. To count ones blessings. To appreciate Life's gifts - however transient. To love unconditionally. To be respectful and mindful of Nature.
Until next time...
Namaste

Good luck little one!!

Stay safe baby owl!  chick3

Finally, reason prevails. We destroy our wetlands at our peril.

I really have had enough. Once again the road crews did a totally awful job...4 wheel drive was 4 wheel skid the whole way in to work today. With an idiot on my bumper the whole way.

I suppose I should be grateful I got here in one piece. But I am really really tired of it...

If you move to Rochester you'll have to get used to a lot more snow than where you live now Ei!  snowing

http://falcon.spectraaccess.net/webcam/sdcamera.html?buffer=2%27%29 Is this the same web cam? Old link didn't work!!  Falcon at nest
Yes Donna!  Didn't know that they changed it.  When we go by there I always look to see if a falcon is on the perch sticking out.  No one does anything with this nest.  I inquired a few years ago and they didn't really have an answer.  It's on the north end of the city.  On the left is the main street of Manchester-on the right is another busy road that runs along what used to be the canals  for water power for the mills-on the right behind the mills is the Merrimack River.  It is on the tallest building to the north-you can see the other tall buildings as it is looking south.  On the Merrimack River about two miles north there is an eagles nest-they won't tell anyone exactly where-for obvious reasons !

Thanks Lynne for the answer. Wasn't sure. Too bad they don't take care of their Falcons like others do! I'm going to keep an eye on this one!
It's not that they do not take care of them.  They do band them and watch on camera.  Just no one on watch on the ground.

Sounds like a job for you Lynn!  pfalcon foxbinocs
I would except it's about 30 to 45 mins. south of where I'm at.  I check just for me when we go down there.

Oh, that's too far to be a regular thing.  wave
