5761  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcons News / Re: An Update On Beauty's Condition - 2/14/12 on: 15-Feb-12, 06:23:30 PM
Well, falcon life in Rochester is never boring -- but it is a bit hard on the blood pressure some days.  My prayers for Beauty that she makes a full recovery, but if she must be an educational bird, at least she will still be with us.  We've lost too many recently and it can't help but break your heart.

The good news is that I don't think there are more dedicated people anywhere than you all in Rochester -- few towns (and for that matter, few peregrines) are lucky enough to have so many people caring about them.  Blessings to you all!

P.S.  Couldn't figure out how to light a candle?  And, if the fight was with Unity, maybe she was tired of being the other woman. . . . .

I think she was tired of the pigeon poop! Just sayin... Wink

Well, both my therapist and I were concerned about how hard it was to get my newest knee bending. Just the beginning of last week it measured at only 62 degrees. After having to basically sit on my butt and elevate it my first week home because of swelling and blood pooling in my thigh (and let scar tissue take over). I'm happy to say I have made a break through this week working through the pain and stiffness to do my exercises I was able to bend my knee to 90 degrees today! My therapist and I breathed a collective sigh of relief and fist bumped each other. Anything past 90 is a bonus! Thank you Lord. Amen! Smiley

My friend Tesa puts peanuts in the shell out at her feeding station and I've seen red-bellied woodpeckers grab them plenty of times. I would say they are pretty feisty as far as woodpeckers go too as I've had one in my backyard stand up to a mockingbird who are no slouch in the feisty category.  Grin

Brian reports: Female pefa was under SE wing TS building. She took off, can't find her. I'm warming up at library. She will go 2 box soon. Keep watching. 3:38pm

Checked the cams, didn't see any activity. Oh boy, she's getting closer.  Sad

Unfortunately, that was probably her MO.   Cry

I believe the bird I watched hunting over the river last Thursday was not Beauty, so the new female has already been on the TSB at the NE Wing and the gridwork between.

That's what many of us thought too.

I remember reading your comments last week, Carol, and looking at the pictures, but your words..."I think it's Beauty".  Something was telling me that you knew it was n't our Beauty.  The battle last Sunday- Super Bowl....there was a lot going on.  I do have a question...do you think Beauty was hurt last Sunday (Feb.5) or Tuesday?   I know she wasn't found until Friday, so my question remains, was she wounded and not found until Friday?  Who found her?   Sorry, I'm still trying to piece together what I read
She is such a creature of habit - and was always on the same perches...much to our delight, so her absences last week alarmed us.  And now, looking back at pics from the week before, she seems agitated. Do you think U was invading B's space prior to the battle that you saw on Super Bowl Sunday?
I know I'm asking many questions that you may not be able to answer, but you have so much experience watching our falcons....

Hi Margaret - The bird I saw on Tuesday, late on the old Changing Scenes Restaurant, I do believe was Beauty and she seemed ok.  She was preening and when she took off she flew just fine.  The bird I saw Thursday, I had a suspicion was not Beauty.  This bird was landing in spots that Beauty usually did not land on and did not seem as dark as Beauty.  But again, due to losing light so quickly at night, I could not tell for sure.

We'll never know when Beauty was injured.  I'm just glad that she was seen by someone who got her the help she needed.  Wish we knew who this good samaritan was.  I'd like to shake his or her hand and thank them.   handshake

Me too Carol!  handshake  Thank you so much whoever found the Beautyful one!  heart
