I must add a couple things I forgot to mention in my report. KathyO and CarolP were also downtown tonight with Joyce and I after dropping Brian off home. We checked around the east side of the city, the Times Square and Broad St. area without seeing a falcon but it was pretty much dark out. We said our good byes and then Joyce and I went to KP just in case we might be able to see Unity somewhere in the darkness to no avail. We got to buy a spot light. lol  That's all folks! 

Today I received a message from a concerned citizen, I am not saying who but this person brought up some good questions that maybe someone can or try to answer. Thank you!

I am confused about the idea that Beauty was fought by Unity.  Did anyone see the fight? Are her wounds consistent with a fight?  How is it that Beauty nearly killed Mariah and beat her up badly and yet this experienced fighter loses to a bird nearly her same age.  Is Unity showing any signs of the fight?  Is it possible Beauty fought with owl or eagle rather than Unity?  Was there any reports of Beauty showing signs of her fight with Mariah back 3 years ago?  I am really finding it hard to believe Unity and Beauty fought.

Any takers?

I totally believe Unity and Beauty fought but obviously there's no way to know for sure. Check out my insights and the possible scenario on my watch report from today on the falcon watch blog. 

Do other raptors fight to the death like peregrines?  This has been bothering me for quite some time now. Most of the back yard birds I'm familiar with usually settle their battles before any serious injury occurs. How will the peregrine population ever increase if one simply replaces another through serious injury or death? Perhaps this is happening because of so many nests in cities?? Sometimes it almost seems as if peregrines are determined to keep their population low. It's extremely frustrating to watch. I sure hope someone can post some good information on this subject for me to read.

Good questions Dot and hope we get some good answers. The Canadian falcons seem to get along, know their boundaries. Unity went way off her boundary. Maybe some are more aggressive? I can't imagine the pigeon supply dropping at Kodak Park, so what made her come to Beauty's territory?

Totally awesome! I think pound for pound Peregrines are the fiercest of the raptors! Of course I kinda like  them best anyway! 

Just an FYI that June did attempt to contact the rehabber for an update on Beauty yesterday, but due to it being the weekend, she was unable to contact them.  We hope to get an update tomorrow.  As soon as we do, an update will be posted.   

Thanks Carol I'm getting very anxious to hear about the Beautyful one as I'm sure everyone else is. 

What did I miss? I saw the original post that Beauty had been injured but have not seen anything about the extent of her injuries, how it may have happened, where she was found, or where she is now. Judging from the well-wishes being sent in, I assume she is still alive??

Dot, Beauty was found on the ground Friday on Clinton Ave. near Xerox. We are not sure of any details other than she is alive and with a rehabber this weekend. We do believe there was a territorial battle most likely with the female falcon we observed yesterday. And we are pretty sure that falcon is Unity.

I agree Joyce. I was comparing my pics from yesterday with other pics I have of Unity and I'm convinced that it was her that we saw downtown yesterday .

Any news this morning?? Very anxious!! (I know how hard this is for the Watchers!)

Bobbie it's snowing very hard here today so I doubt if anyone will be going out for a watch. We got about 5 inches overnite and we expect at least that much more today.

Thanks Carol and Annie. I WAS feeling better until  Beauty  went down.

I can say that CarolP believes Tuesday was the last time she believes she saw Beauty for sure. She along with Dana,Joyce and KathyO are at my house right now. Beauty is now and will be in good hands. It is thought that there was a territorial battle at some point which led to Beautys' injuries. That's all I can say at this time. There will probably not be any more news until next week when the DEC or June Summers gives us an update. I don't believe the crow business has anything to do with it.I have a candle lit by a framed picture of the Beautyful one. Please pray for her everyone!
