!!! Baby H is flying great!!! Afternoon report.
July 12, 2011 - Toronto - Don Mills
Bruce Massey Reports:

Arrived @ 1615 Hrs., initially saw no Peregrines. Started Walking West & after 5 or so Minutes and observed Quest then Harley fly into the top level of the Harliquin Building. I went behind the Nest Building, and after watching Harley do a good Flight (2-3 min) which included some Kiting, she made about a “9″ landing on the top roof Level of the Rose Coloured Building just to the East of Harliquin.

Murray showed up a few minutes later and filled me in on the days happenings. By now, Harley had flown on to the rear of the Harleqin Building so I followed her and set up in the shade of the Parking Garage. Soon after that Kendal came from the East and teased Harley stupid, all but landing on top of her with the food. That said it was an impressive flight display, all done with subtle movement of wings and tail no wing flapping.

A bit later, with no parents in area (At least that I could see) Harley decided to explore on her own. There was I would guess a 10-15 kph gusting wind and she kited w/ a little bit of trouble, got some height and then headed out to the West finally came to land on the 3 storey building with the White top. As I was walking over to check I was pretty sure that she flew a quite a good speed back by the Nest Building. I continued over to the Building anyway, and didn’t find her. I finally found her on the North Side of the Harliquin Building @ roof height.

I was relieved by Mark & Marion and left around 1915 Hrs.
Thanx Bruce

Thanks for the report Bruce, my Canadian falcon friend!  wave

Mirta said, "don't worry about it, it is a beautiful and safe spider. It is a female Argiope".  Yay!  I just need confirmation after my brown recluse encounter last year :-)

I like the female part but Beautiful!!! Oh Mirta!! I'd be running from that girl! I used to pull weeds with my bare hands....NO more since I picked many up and ran running screaming. They hide in them weeds!!  drool

As always, beautiful, and moving, pictures,  Thank you, Dana.
Did Diamond and her  unbanded? male self-select this site?  This is a natural ledge, and not a nest box  that was  in place to attract falcons?  Is that correct?
A beautiful setting, but these little butterballs are late aren't they?   When will they fledge?
I know they were moved, but am unsure of WHY they were moved?

Margaret they are indeed late. John S. (the official watcher and photographer for the site) told Joyce and I when we were there on Sunday that they expect them to fledge in about 8-10 days. He will contact Joyce when they do and we will be going back to check them out!  Grin  foxbinocs

It is a gorgeous setting for the falcons.
Did you ever think, MAK, when you signed up last year to watch the falcons, that you'd be going "international"?  Last year Rochester, this year, Canada --next year? The WORLD!

Heck no Margaret! When I signed up I didn't even know if I'd be able to do Rochester with the limitations I have. I owe my going "international" to my friend and fellow falcon watcher Joycie! She has been very good to me and I thank her so very much!!!  I'm sure I'll never be able to afford to go overseas but you just never know!  As far as the setting goes I guess it doesn't get much better than Niagara Falls one of the wonders of the world! So far it seems that we Harlequin employees haven't been needed for the official fledge watch and it seems that Harlequin is such a fast learner, with terrific parents, that I may never have to use my towel swishing skills to pick her up off the ground! Wink

Much like CPR - good skills to possess while hoping they don't have to be used.

I totally agree NWF!  Grin

Would love it if there was some get together Saturday! Let me know, OK? I can't drive to Buffalo though.  mbanana

It would be great to see you!

OK...so far...Wild Wings on Friday-they're open 10-2, exact time TBD. So far in my car, me & MAK. Maybe Jeanne & Margaret will meet us there.

Joyce has graciously offered to schlep me to Buffalo for a fledgling fix on Saturday, again, time TBD.  I was thinking maybe we could figure out a place to meet for dinner Saturday-nothing fancy-just a time & place & whoever can get there can get there...

Now if we could just get the transporter beam working for Bobbie Wink ...

Brian is coming with us Ei and I left a message for Dan. Waiting to hear back from him.  Grin

Sorry,Joyce, - and it may be moderated by a MOD - and it's not PC -- but how many of us have "domesticated"  a homo sapien (sp?)  in our day?   LOL  ? If we don't do it? Who does?

Every woman worth her salt domesticates our males!  Some begins with their mother, but it is up to the wife to stomp him into something fit to enjoy dinner with  lol

wave I have been contacted by Eileen(Dumpsterkitty) via email in regard to her visit to Rochester this coming weekend. She will be here Friday and Saturday. I don't know if anyone else from out of town is coming but she and I will be visiting Wild Wings on Friday(I have previous plans for Saturday). She has room for 1 one more passenger besides me. I know people work but if there is anyone else who can join us please let us know. I will be contacting Dan and Brian to see if they are interested. Also, if any of our local watchers is planning a trip to Buffalo on Saturday I'm sure Ei would like to join them.  foxbinocs
