31  Other Nature Related Information / Falcon Web Cams / Re: Harrisburg, PA Falcons on: 12-Apr-10, 04:38:23 PM
I was watching for a few minutes this morning and saw an interesting scene played out.  One of the falcons got on the eggs, but left one out from underneath him (or her).  All of a sudden off camera, you hear the other falcon 'speaking' to the other and the one on the nest replies, gets up, changes direction, sits down again but this time incorporating all of the eggs.  Then all was silent again.

After seeing this, I was thinking that it was mama scolding the dad for not having all the eggs underneath, she b****ed at him, he said 'nag, nag, nag' and then fixed the problem.   2funny

I have seen the bison in the camera range in the summer in the early morning.  Since there is a two hour difference from here to there, that's not that difficult to do.  I just don't like the fact that they don't give predictions in the fall and spring.  Granted the visitor's center is closed, but couldn't they find a way?  (shrug shoulders)

I have seen the pileated several times since moving into my house in 1994.  Each time has been 4 or 5 years apart and each time it was during the winter during a prolonged below average temperature time period.  I'm in a very urban area so needless to say, each time it's startled me to see them here (I'm in the NW suburbs of Atlanta).  With this winter being so cold, I'm surprised that I haven't seen any this winter.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Yippie!  I heard my first pair of Cardinals singing in the last few days.  So, for those of us who hate the cold, there is hope on the horizon!

But, my question is this.  With spring approaching, more and more webcams will be starting to broadcast.  Is there are directory, either here or elsewhere, for these webcams?  So, when someone says, "you should have seen abc on webcam xyz" this morning, we would know where to go.

Excuse me if it is an apparent link and I don't see it!

I've had good luck with sprinkling black pepper around the plants.  Don't let the pepper touch the plant,  because it burns the leaves in some plants, and you have to reapply every couple of days or after it rains, but I've had good luck.  I bought one of those big containers of ground black pepper at a warehouse club.

I did.  It was right in my post.  Apparently it's not there anymore.  The security if from the Department of Defense since the webcam is from the Army Corps of Engineers.  I will see if I can find the photo again.

I like to look at webcams from areas with extreme winter weather conditions.  I also look at them in summer to see how 'mild' (or not), their summers are.  I look at webcams from the Svalbard, Barrow, Alaska, the top of Mount Washington, New Hampshire, and the Soo Canal in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  Well, looking at the webcam yesterday from the Soo Locks, I noticed that it really was a 'webcam':

You can barely see it today, if you go to the website, accept the security certificate, it's the photo in the lower right of the four.

About 4 years ago, I was sitting on my porch studying (I didn't have a hummingbird feeder at the time, and had never knowingly seen one.)  As I'm studying, I hear this weird sound and looked up, and about 3 feet in front of my face, looking at me, was a hummer!  It then flew away quickly, but it was quite an experience!
