uh-huh......well....it won't be a silly question if we lose a future eyas to rain water, now will it??
I wasn't being a smart "donkey" I was being serious. We need to spray the ledge and see how it drains before its time for them to nest. I garden hose would give the worst case of a lot of rain at one time. That way if it doesn't drain fast enough they could put in some drain holes.

Did I miss it? Did we ever hear back from who (whatever the initials are) took the eggs at banding time if they were fertilized and didn't develop or if they were duds? My thoughts this morning were on Archer and was wondering if Unity's egg could of developed if things had been different. (if Dot.ca hadn't been a jerk to Beauty at first) I hope the little guy is still out there somewhere re-cooperating No BC, I believe nothing has been posted yet and as far as Archer, I miss him too. I was going through all my pics yesterday, sorting, deleting and came across many pics of Archer, some from when he was hurt. Brought a tear to my eye. I still get a blip in my heart when I come across a pic of my boy Kaver also. Amazing how these birds impact your emotions. I'm still wigged out by how many members left when MK left. I believe we are blessed just to have new pairs. Just think if no falcons wanted to use the nest! I know I miss Kaver too. I too was mad at Beauty at first. But she has earned my respect and she belongs here now. I like Pigott but she needs to keep her tail feathers at BS. I think we lost so many members more because of Kodak getting rid of the nest box and then the move here to this forum instead of the yahoo groups. I love all raptors some more than others (I don't trust DC, I like him but I don't trust him he doesn't have Beauty's interests at heart he pays her token service) I know Archer was a two timer too. But he still cared for Beauty you could tell.

This is all just too sad! Can something be done to prevent these "Maggots" in the future? Who knows, maybe this is how many die in the wild! Is there something to do at banding to help? Just seems like a simple solution but it's probably not. What a way to go! She was so close and came a long way to die from an infestation of fly larvae! Thank you Alison! something happened like this years ago to my dog. He was a house dog and only out to do his business. He was bitten by a fly that laid eggs in a gland by his rear end. We caught it and took him to the vet and they fixed him up and he was fine. Flies are just nasty. I doubt if there is anything you can do, pesticides (I know they have stuff for horses) would cause more and probably worse problems (shades of DDT)
