Things like this might be why on another story someone left that injured bird out there for three days before getting help. 

First of all, I don't understand the reason for trapping birds, particularly songbirds.  Second, those numbers are totally inconceivable to me.   

I believe that they sell them to people who then let them go...and who knows what else.  I'm sure many don't make it.  Stupid!

actually I believe it is for the pet bird trade. its totally wrong. But actually did you know in foreign countries our Goldfinches and Cardinals are highly sought after? Malta seems to let anybody do anything they want. I'd love to declare hunting season on hunters see how they like it being on the receiving end. Not kill them but oh I don't know a sniper with the rubber bullets that the cops use to stun folks just once make the hunters think twice. I'm bad

I want to believe

I too enjoy the reminders thanks for bringing it back. There was something special about that year... Seneca was daddies little girl. I remember she didn't want to fledge and Kaver went and had the "talk" with her in the playpen. Next thing you know she was flying around like a pro. Kaver  was such a good dad and mate. I am happy for what we have now. But I don't want to forget the ones out of our sight but still in our hearts.

if the DEC wants to keep 99 birth location quiet that is fine... but are his parents banded? who are they?

  How old is he?

Last year I had the privilege of naming one of the baby falcons at the Times Square Building in Rochester NY.
The name I chose for her was 'Voyager'. To me, it emphasized the adventurous nature of the peregrine falcon, and the best in spirit of people when they are moving forward with life to whatever our destiny is.
I learned today, that as often happens in nature, Voyager had to be euthanized in Canada after an apparently savage battle.
One in five peregrines makes it to year two. Voyager did not make it, but in her time, I'm sure, she carried on the spirit of the peregrine, and contributed her part in this recovering species' proud legacy and awesome future.

You will be missed, Voyager.  Fly free    darn it anyhow I so wanted you to make it
