Didn't they say it was probably because she is young? So with Beauty no I don't think we will have that problem (except with maybe Sophie since she was laid 8 days before the others) Now with Unity I don't know. How old is she? (I forget)

Unity is 2 yrs old BC. Don't forget, Beauty was 2 yrs old also last year when she laid her 1st clutch. Guess it depends on the female.

Beauty was born in 2007 making her 3 years old last year (2010) when she had her first clutch.  In 2009, after they attacked Mariah, Beauty and Archer were believed to have a scrape on Midtown but nothing came of that (she was 2 then). This is A and B's 3rd spring together-2nd clutch.

Didn't Rhea Mae have a full clutch at 2 years old?   4 eggs, all hatched?
Carol would know.

I think Beauty's problem the first year was location. Midtown, a rain gutter is not a good place to raise a family.

Nice picture of Beauty coming into the nest box at 2:05 pm.  You can see the water beading up on her back.  It's been over cast and rain here in Rochester all day.  Wish the sunshine would come out.

I thinks we have the bestest camera, when you make those pictures big its just amazing the details you can see.  Shocked

Thanks Donna, well Beauty did have the one that didn't hatch last year. As long as we get one eyas I'll be happy (I want all three but will settle for one)

Archer's back and he found another white feather!!

The other pic is from last night, feather seemed to have vanished. He even looks different.
if you look really close the white feather is just peeping out from behind a colored feather, he was hiding it from you Donna.  Wink

Update of female

The female was studied.
It did not die from poisoning or infection, but probably from heart and circulatory failure. This death is not uncommon in birds.
its sad that she passed, but I am glad it wasn't poison.

502  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Eggs or No Eggs at KP! That is the Question! on: 14-May-11, 12:25:55 PM
I know everyone has been very patient about waiting to hear if there are any eggs at Kodak Park.  The Watchers have been very busy trying confirm if there are any.  From the ground, through scopes and long lenses, we have witnessed behavour that suggests there is at least one egg in the scrape.  Dana and I thought we could see a bit of dark red in the scrape through the scope this past weekend, the color of a Peregrine egg.  But we couldn't be sure.

This afternoon, an employee spoke to Joyce.  He wanted to let us know that they were pretty sure that there are two eggs in the scrape!

We will continue to keep an eye on the situation at KP and report what we see and try to get & share more information.

I feel so bad for Beauty, who waited through a tough winter for him to come back to her, to be treated like this.  Very sad.   Sad

it seems to bother us more than it does Beauty....or Unity for that matter.

He's a stud muffin who wouldn't want his eyases

I don't think we can really ever know how Beauty feels about it but I think there was definitely something going on with her when there was 8 days between the 1st & 2nd eggs.  I believe that's the time A started visiting the KP female.
no he was seeing her before that maybe even last year. What I think bothered her was (if my memory serves) there were flights into her space by Unity (or some other falcon). She was worried about a nest/territory take over, that would be my guess. But when Unity seemed to be happy with KP she settled back down and laid some more eggs. (after all she did it to Mariah so she would know)

regarding A's feather lost---do you suppose the stress of pleasing
2 women is causing him to molt?

He lost his white feather last year also and it came back. It's an Archer thing!
secret2  Maybe he pulled it out because that is how we knew he was a bigamist.  rofl

Last night during the switch I thought I saw a spot on one of the eggs. I wasn't sure if it was a pip or poop.  Embarrassed I was trying to figure out how to make the picture bigger when Beauty came and sat on them (sometimes my computer doesn't like me and it takes me awhile to do something)  stupid

7Y seems to be the most dedicated of fathers----are these his 1st eggs or is it possible
to know? the Lady has used her years and experience to pick him as a mate
He was Lady's Mate last year. So no they are not his first. The postings said he is 11 years old so Lady may not be his first mate either. He is a good mate and a good papa.

is anyone sure that Unity actually has eggs yet
I don't think anyone knows for sure. They suspect there is. But she is not incubating yet if she does.
