I e-mailed all three.....
Dear People,
Please stop using the rat poison, which could ultimately kill the hawks, they also kill rats and eat poisoned rats. Work on getting garbage cans covered and not overflowing. Use rodent-repellent trash bags. THIS SPECIES IS LEGALLY PROTECTED in Canada, US, and Mexico by the International Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It's illegal for anyone to keep these hawks, hunt them, disturb nests or eggs, or even collect feathers, but it's ok to poison them?
Please think about this and thank you, Nora.....

Done. This species is legally protected in Canada, Mexico and the United States by the international Migratory Bird Treaty Act. In the United States, they are also protected by state, provincial and federal bird protection laws, making it illegal for anyone to keep hawks without a permit or to hunt them, disturb their nests or eggs - even collecting their feathers is against the law.So in other words you can't have feathers, keep them, hunt them, disturb nests/eggs, but you can poison them. Sick.

Damn! Yesterday (and now I couldn't find it) it was posted Popcorn was going to a place with other baby ostriches about his age and would be loved and considered a pet, not for other uses. I think it was at least an hour and a half away? It's too bad the eggs hatched, the breeder didn't know if they even would. Maybe the one that was shaped weird should have been thrown out. Meanwhile I will say Dash sure tried and didn't skimp on $ to help them. I wish he'd give up after this too. What I didn't like to see after all this was in today's post: ...............I decided I am going to go ahead and drive out and meet the ostrich hatcher. I have the afternoon off anyway, and I could use the time alone in the car to relax and think. Also I am looking forward to seeing a group of young ostriches that are healthy and happy. I will take pictures and report back to you. In addition to being therapeutic, this will be an educational opportunity, so I can consider what might happen next year. I do love hatching and raising ostriches, but I will have to step up my game to limit the amount of tragedy that is associated with this. I regret bringing nice people like you into this, and then having so many problems. If I do decide to try again, it will be better. Including a place where the older ostriches can go so you can come visit them. My next update will be with photographs of the ostrich hatchery............

Is she coming from a rescue or shelter? Did you find her on FaceBook? A lot of times they'll work on finding transport via a FB post about the dog. Fingers crossed for you and let us know how it goes.

Interesting. Like with dogs, they go on sight besides smell. I had an Old English Sheepdog clipped down and the neighbor dog always loved playing with her. The cat liked her. The cat ran and hid when we first came home and the neighbor's dog growled at her until they got close to each other. A neighbor up the street here raised cockatiels and they definitely knew if a person was "their person" or someone they knew. I agree on the peregrines as far as vocalizations also. Interesting Shaky!
