Looks like Louie (Beauty's brother) and Dori have returned to the Tower this year!

I hope so! Sightings have been few so far this year, but in the last two days, one of the birds has been visiting the nest.

The female at this site is from the Ruhr region of Germany, born in 2008, and banded 7OY. The male appears to be unidentified.

The nest is located on the tower of St. Laurentius Church in the heart of Lokeren.

Last year was a very difficult one for the peregrines at this nest. I think that something happened to one of the birds, or one was displaced by an intruder. The first two chicks who hatched appeared to be underfed and neglected, and both died young in the nest. A third chick hatched, and was also thin and malnourished. However, this chick managed to hang on and eventually grew up and fledged successfully. I did see the juvie visit the nest from time to time after fledging.

I hope that this year will be a much better one for the peregrines at this nest.

One of the peregrines returned to the nest at Great Spirit Bluff on Saturday, February 20, and was seen there again on Sunday.

The bird is banded purple on the right leg, and black/green on the left leg. The bands are very difficult to read, but I believe that this is Michelle (P/87) from what I could see on the pics I had saved on Saturday and Sunday. It is not Travis, whose bands are black/green 06/N. Michelle will be eleven years old this year, and Travis will be thirteen. I hope they both return safely.
