On FB, they said this was Eole, who was with Spirit last winter before Authurin came on the scene. Eole successfully nested with a female at another location last nesting season so why he's back here is strange. A female named Eve (who nested last season with a male named Aeolus) was seen with Eole in this box a few days ago. Strange happenings there. Isn't Eole also the son of Spirit and Roger? You are right, Kris. I did not have a really good look at the bands, but I am about 99% sure it was Éole. My pics are from yesterday. It was posted on FB that Éole and Ève were both in the nest two days ago. Spirit returned, and told Ève to leave. There was no battle, and Ève left immediately. Éole and Ève raised four chicks this year at l'Église St-Marc. Éole had returned there after being displaced by Arthurin. Éole is the French form of Aeolus; Ève was his previous mate, and he went back to her. Éole is indeed the son of Spirit and Roger. The question might be, where is Arthurin? I had not seen anyone at the nest for a while, and the cams were down quite a bit. Spirit was at the nest again this morning.

Caught a momentary bonding session at the nest today. The female was Spirit, but the male was not Arthurin. This male was banded, while Arthurin is unbanded. I am pretty sure that the male at the nest today was Éole. He left, and Spirit stayed to do some work on the nest. Now eleven years old, she looks really good.

The little male has fledged, apparently successfully. Stay safe, little one. From Scott Banks: At about 1.29pm (local AEDT) the first of the fledgings succeeded. For a few minutes beforehand there was unrest and anticipation in the Concrete Hilton but then, with one of the adults looping around the tower the first chick bolted, in a very attractive soaring flight up and around to the left before joining up with the parent and disappearing off our cameras. We’ve just taken a walk around campus in that entire direction for about an hour and couldn’t find any sign of peregrines in the trees or around the grounds (there are now sheep in the paddock just over left where the grapes used to be), which is probably a good thing – the magic of flight probably took over and the young’un is still at altitude! In saying that we returned to check on the tower, only to be berated by an adult on top of the tower, just above the remaining kids. No doubt soon we’ll see them all back together again when it comes time for feeding. There is no concern just yet – the weather is absolutely perfect for fledging (cloudy, but toally calm) and there are no hazards spotted in the vicinity. Carparks and public areas were checked with no signs so far.
In the mean time the other two chicks are rearing and ready to go too, almost bang on estimates of about 39-40 days.Video of the first fledge, from the site: http://youtu.be/H1fqf90zgZA

Nice photos of Sandy! For what it's worth, I do check the site every day, and the birds I have been seeing there have been banded (and having frequent bonding sessions). As Dumpsterkitty mentioned, it can be very difficult to see bands from the angle of the cam, but I think I can see at least part of a silver band on the right leg of the bird in the pics posted on the CPF site. There was a bird at the nest a little while ago. I can't tell who this was, but they didn't stay long.

More bad news this evening. Yet more sad news to report.
July 21, 2015 - Mississauga - Holcim
Mark Nash Reports:
Again it is with great sadness that I must report that we have lost another fledgling.
As many of you know, this is the time of year when we have finished most all of the fledge watches, and the young fledgling survivors are now able to hold their altitude and stay off the ground, (and for the most parts), no longer in need of our help.
That being said, this is not entirely true, as the young fledglings are starting to investigate their new world, and straying further and further from their parents and the home territory throughout the day, and as we all know, unsupervised young children usually get into trouble.
Remembering that the young fledglings are still very much “children”- in mind, still very much dependent on their parents for food as many of them are unable to catch their own food at this point, and most all are still very inexperienced with any type of real skilled flight, and still have a lot of learning yet to do.
This is the time when they end up getting in other types of trouble. remembering that they are building up a lot of speed and unable to judge distances given this speed, and end up crashing into things and/or getting stuck or caught in things. Thus is the case for little Ogden who obviously had a collision with something, and sustained serious injuries as a result.
Little Ogden was found on the ground within the plant grounds and was successfully rescued by the great Holcim staff. Unfortunately, Ogden succumbed to his injuries and died shortly thereafter.Poor little Ogden. It is only a week since he fledged. This has been a terrible year for peregrines so far.
