Yesterday was the 11th anniversary of the loss of one of those great matriarchs, Mae, in a territorial battle with Belinda. Mae was the very first falcon, worldwide, to nest at a power plant. She raised 37 chicks there during her lifetime.
Mae's last daughter, Speedy, twelve years old this year, laid her first egg two days ago — the same day Quest laid her first egg.
