The new male was back at the nest again today; will try to post pics later. Have been offline for some time due to the aftermath of devastating floods in the area where I live, so I am way behind with what has been happening.
From the Canadian Peregrine Foundation site today:
Quest has a new boyfriend
July 30, 2013 - Toronto - Don Mills
Marion Nash Reports:
CPF volunteer Bruce Massey has been keeping an eye on the family to make sure Quest is managing to keep up with the needs of her kids without Kendal and has discovered today that Quest has a new suitor.
Bruce was able to confirm by the band number 50 over X that the new male is Skye produced at the Etobicoke Bloor and Islington nest in 2011 and is on site courting her.
We are still not sure weather Kendal will ever recover well enough to be released back to the wild but we certainly never expected him to be replaced so soon.
We will be keeping an eye on the site to make sure that this years offspring are doing ok and will keep you posted on how they are doing and on the budding new romance.
Is there any more news of Kendal?

The second chick at the Warren nest was banded and named Amelia. She fledged successfully, but very sadly, she died on July 27 after a collision with windows. As posted by Denise on the Cleveland forum: We lost our Amelia today. She sustained injuries that were just too much for her to be able to bounce back from. Although the wildlife rehab place did all they could, she succumbed to her injuries this am. There is to be a necropsy performed by the State of Michigan and we won't know for several weeks what the real cause of her death was. We do know that she crashed in to glass windows in an enclosed courtyard. She expelled a pellet just as she was captured and so they are not sure if that was an indication of possible internal injuries. Her wing appeared injured as well as an open wound on her elbow. She hit the glass a second time as they were trying to capture her.

Ozzie and Harriet moved back to their old nest box, and laid a second clutch of eggs. The first egg apparently had problems hatching, and the birds removed it from the nest box. Yesterday, the second egg hatched. Harriet feeding the chick: Ozzie with the new hatchling:

When I checked the site a little earlier, I didn't expect to find a second chick! Incredible! Seven full days after the first chick hatched. I am so happy for Madame X and Surge (parents of Durand in Columbus, Gleig in Buffalo and Pigott in Rochester, among others). I hope the tiny chick will do well. Yesterday evening there was still one chick: Looks as if something is happening with the egg on the left: This morning: a brand new tiny chick.

I looked at the Earthcam archive - little one was barely alive around midday Monday. It was no longer breathing around 5:00 pm. And yes, the archive from this morning shows the adult (might have been Mintaka) using the dead one as food for the other 4. Quite disturbing, to say the least. After thinking all day about it, Peregrines do feed on birds, so maybe it makes sense in the bird world. I sure hope there's no danger to the others from this one - maybe it was just too weak to survive. I assume they'll check the 4 closely at banding.
Very sad to read that this happened. It is very rare; parents will normally carry a lost chick gently out of the nest. I have seen this kind of behavior only once before, back in 2004, at another nest. I wish it had been possible to find out what caused the loss of this little chick. Could you please tell me where would I find the archive you mentioned?

I am so sorry to read of the loss of one of these beautiful little chicks. Very strange for this nest, which is normally very successful. There has been no lack of food, and the chicks have been very well cared for. I wonder what happened. Yesterday afternoon there were five chicks; all were moving around. f Today I only see four in the nest.
