I wish we could at least have known who this bird was. Very sad that this won't happen.

The persecution of raptors never seems to end. Sea eagles are such beautiful birds, and the fact that twelve of the birds released have already been found poisoned is sickening.

SFO looks good, and he is such a handsome tiercel. I hope everything goes well, and that he will be able to make a full recovery.

I saw the name Miep too but then VV/Vievie so it was really confusing! Thanks for clearing the names up for me!  I just pray that it's a quiet year for poor Pa and that he and Vievie have babies. 

I too hope that Pa and his new mate will have a good year, with no territorial disputes or other problems. I don't know where the name VV (or Vievie) came from. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the name Maria (with any spelling) for a peregrine . . .

I wonder if they have been able to find out yet what this substance is, and trace where it came from. It sounds as if many more birds may have been affected by this than is known at this stage.

I don't think this supposed solution makes any sense. And why did they wait until there were only 10 Spotted Owls left in the wild to attempt to do anything? Unfortunately, this total disregard for wildlife has been characteristic of this government.

I was reading a post about Pa and new gal the other day on BCAW and someone asked if new gal was banded.  They said she is unbanded although I had read VV/Vievie in some converation on there. I guess I misunderstood that VV was her band no. so, no, she isn't banded but her name is still Vievie. 

Yes, Pa's new mate is unbanded. I had usually seen her referred to on one or more Dutch forums as Miep or the diminutive Miepke (Miep is a Dutch variant of Maria). Apparently on one Dutch forum she is referred to as VV. BCAW decided for some reason to go with this name.
