According to one of the volunteers who went out to help clear debris, the pelicans all made it through Hurricane Irma and are doing fine.

The sanctuary sustained some structural damage, and an outdoor hospital area will need to be rebuilt, but otherwise everything came through the storm okay.

Beauty was not far away; she was perched on the railing for a few minutes while DC was in the nest vocalizing and bowing to her.

       

Interesting story, but a very sad outcome, especially after the sister had done her best to care for her injured sibling.
