A short update on Spirit today, posted by Eve Belisle:
And in passing, I have had news of Spirit. She is doing well, the swelling in her elbow remains a problem, but everything else has come along very well, the range of motion in her wing is good according to the report from Dr. Fitzgerald. It is still too soon to know if she will be able to return to the wild.

Necropsy report on HK.. From Ed Clark at WCV: The results of the necropsy performed on HK confirmed our worst fears--that there were internal injuries that would not show up immediately. Indeed, there were multiple injuries, including one we have never seen before...several vertebrae in the middle of HK's spine that had literarily died, and were starting to deteriorate. This, combined with the bruising of his heart and lungs, and the associated hemorrhaging, suggest that his fate was sadly sealed from the instant of the impact with the car. The only good news is that with the damage to the nerves, and the pain medication he was being given, it is unlikely that he was experiencing any pain or discomfort.Kris, thank you so much for posting this update on HK. The number and extent of his injuries make me feel even more sad about what happened to him. With such a major spinal injury, surgery and manipulation of his legs could only have made things worse. The vehicle which hit him must have been travelling at some speed to cause so much damage. I know WCV tried their best to help him.

An update today on the Fort Myers nest after Hurricane Irma had passed through the area:
Happy to report H & M's nest tree survived the hurricane winds of Irma and is still standing. Many limbs and foliage lost but it could have been much worse.
No sign of the love birds yet but they are smart and know more than us when it comes to survival in the wild. We are hopeful for their return to the area soon.
Thanks for your continued support and prayers. We have a lot of recovery work ahead but will continue to prep for streaming as we can.

Some really good news from the Richmond nest: Richmond’s Juvenile Male Falcon Spotted in New Jersey! Beautiful photo by Dave Rivera – www.dabitz.comA wildlife photographer in New Jersey captured images of Richmond’s juvenile male Peregrine Falcon that fledged from this year’s nest! Images that nicely showed the bird’s black and green leg bands of 46/AU allowed us to make the identification. These photos were taken August 13th, around noon, in Lyndhurst, New Jersey at Richard W. DeKorte Park. The photographer reported that he saw the bird for just a few seconds as it dove toward a wetland at the park, then circled twice above him and then took off.
Many thanks to the photographer for capturing these photos, noting the leg bands, and sharing them with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, which helped the photos to eventually find their way to our agency.
This juvenile male Peregrine Falcon fledged from its nest site atop the Riverfront Plaza Building in downtown Richmond on June 29th. It is the sole survivor of this year’s clutch of three chicks.
