571  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Cadence, 91/BA on: 25-Mar-17, 06:15:29 PM
I hate to see any bird injured, and she does not deserve this. She wanted this nest so much.

The eggs are okay so far:

She came out of the nest, and left again.

The injured female:

The male:

I am glad that Cadence is alive and well, but I also feel really bad for the resident female, injured just as she is laying her eggs.

The resident female this morning:

The male, who incubated the eggs for a while:

Came over earlier to post a pic with bands, but since I cannot start a new topic under offspring, could not find a good place to post.

The two eggs belong to the other female, the current resident female at the nest. The first egg was laid on March 23, and the second only this morning. With her injury, I don't know how she managed to make it back to the nest and lay her second egg.

The resident female, who is unbanded, took this nest from the previous resident female in January of this year. She is unbanded. The male is also unbanded.

I don't know if this battle is over, or just on pause. No matter what the outcome, there are no winners here.

Hope returns!  clap

UPDATE NE FL Eagle cam. After not being seen since fledging on March 2nd, Romeo and Juliet's juvie eaglet Hope just returned to the nest area with Romeo... Courtesy of American Eagle Foundation.

That is great news! Thanks, Kris. I had checked earlier and there was still no sign of Hope then. Well done, Romeo, for bringing her home!

Valentine laid her first egg this evening. It wasn't there a little while ago.

Congratulations to Flash and Valentine!

The deck is still messy, but less visible after dark. Peregrines are not exactly known for being neat freaks, with a few exceptions.

Mississauga (Mississauga Executive Centre)

The first Canadian egg of the year is in the Mississauga nest today!

Several years ago, this nest had the first egg in North America. That year, the pair raised one chick, Mason.

As of this afternoon, they've confirmed the second egg has hatched!

Thank you, Kris! That's great! So pleased they have both hatched.

An update on Peace and Bob:

Update on  "Bob" (flight mate with Peace at Audubon)

The non-flighted, adult, male Bald Eagle Audubon reference number 709-16 was recently removed from the flight because Peace wanted to be near him and the adult can not fly. The adult was a good choice and did a great job of being a surrogate to Peace, but Peace has progressed and Audubon wants to encourage Peace to work on his flight abilities, which Peace was not doing while the adult was in there.

Bob was moved to a smaller flight nearby. Once Peace flies and lands on the top perches (15' high on each end of the flight), his confidence level will change and nothing will stop him. Then Peace's release will be right around the corner!

In 2014, a pair of peregrines arrived in the city of Sint-Niklaas, and took up residence in the city center on the tower of the Church of Our Lady. Two eggs were laid, but did not hatch. It was felt that the nest site was directly in the sun and the temperature was too high. For 2015, a nest box was installed for the birds, and they raised three chicks.

Last year, they also raised three chicks at this nest.

Yesterday, the female laid her first egg of 2017:

There is also an outside cam:

The resident male at this nest continues to be FT, born at de Mortel in 2009, a son of Pa and S2. His Belgian mate remains unidentified, as far as I know.

Yesterday she laid her first egg:

Last year, she laid four eggs and all four hatched. However, the female decided she would not raise four chicks, and refused to feed one of the chicks. This was a bright, active, beautiful little chick who just wanted to be fed and grow up. She would drag this little one away from the nest. Dad would come in and try to feed the chick, and bring the chick back to the nest. In the end, the female won, and the little chick died.  Sad

There have been too many mean females out there lately.

 good news  Thanks, Kris!

The little owlet has a very sweet face. Hope everything goes well for the second one.

I thought there might have been a pip last night when Altera took a break, but it was difficult to be sure.

Yes, they have an egg!

Niecey spent the night at the nest, and this morning she and Lil Dad have their first egg.

Niecey looks beautiful this morning:

It seems that Nona may be gone. Squawker has been seen with a very young female still in her juvie plumage, and Nona has not been seen.  Sad

Now Squawker is still apparently being observed, but the immature female is not being seen. For the last few days, I have not seen anyone at the nest.

I am still holding out hope that Nona is out there and may return.
