The resident pair at this nest are Hilde and Heinz. Hilde laid her first egg on February 25, and her second egg today. I had seen them incubating for the past two days, but could not see an egg. The nest box is made of stainless steel.

The site was updated today to confirm that there are now two eggs.

February 27, 2018

In the freezing cold the first egg was laid on Sunday morning and on Tuesday the second one followed. At the current temperatures, it is very important that the eggs are permanently covered from the beginning and protected from freezing. And so you see the two now taking turns incubating all day in the nest. That is not yet full incubation. This will probably start on Thursday with the 3rd egg and then probably warmer temperatures again. It is to be hoped that the eggs will survive the two coming cold days and the particularly icy easterly wind up in the box.

Oudenaarde 2018

The European season has begun, with the first egg in Europe being laid by Eva at the Oudenaarde nest in Belgium on February 24. In 2016 and 2017, she laid her first egg on March 1.

Today Eva laid her second egg:

This peregrine nest in Boston has been very successful for 20 years. It is a very spacious nest, and I really like the idea that the parents and their chicks have room to move around, and can also be completely invisible from outside if they choose.

The nest is cleaned in between breeding seasons, and fresh gravel provided. The tray in front was just replaced with a new one.
