Nice video, Kris! Here is another video of Bowerbird courtship: http://youtu.be/v_BurGW2rPUIf everything goes well, the female will build a nest high in a tree, anywhere from 40 ft to 100 ft in the air, where she will lay her eggs. She will incubate the eggs, and raise the chicks, entirely on her own. Meanwhile, the male remains at his bower and attempts to attract the next female . . .

The eagle who was rescued by Trooper Julio Velez has been released! He is now flying free again. It was good to see that Trooper Velez was there to participate in the release. From Channel 9: OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. - A bald eagle who flew into a Jeep on the Florida Turnpike was back into the wild on Friday.
The eagle was found on the side of the road in October when Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Julio Velez rescued the bird and put it in the back of his squad car until help arrived.
The eagle was released at a golf course in St. Cloud Friday, a site chosen because it was near where the bird was found and not near other bald eagle nests, officials said.
Velez said he stopped to rescue the injured bird from the roadway because he was worried it would get hit by a car.
For nearly a month, volunteers rehabilitated the animal at the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland.
It was suffering from muscle soreness and internal injuries, officials at the center said.
Velez, who recently had unrelated shoulder surgery, said the eagle didn't seem to initially appreciate the rescue.
"He scratched me here, grabbed me," he said, referring to his right arm.
Velez hoped that the eagle's story would inspire people to give a helping hand in their lives, because there are "still a bunch of good people out here willing to help anyone out in a time of need."Image from Channel 9: Article and video of the release: http://www.wftv.com/news/local/rescued-osceola-county-bald-eagle-will-be-released-back-into-wild/468435384

A visitor to the bower. This bird looks fairly small to be a female; females and juvies have the same coloring, soft shades of olive green. The males do not have their full adult plumage until they are at least seven years old. They collect items to decorate their bower, the favorite color being blue. They like objects such as straws, bottle caps, clothespins, feathers and berries. The site owner, Ken, provides the male with a number of blue objects with which to adorn his bower.

I believe that Mell, the last chick in the nest box, has now fledged. Each time I checked yesterday, she was still in the nest.
But when I went to check the site today, the cams are down. All I get is a "service disruption, down for essential maintenance" message. As of a few minutes ago, that message is still there.
If Photobucket ever comes back up, I'll try to post some photos I had saved over the past few days. Too many sites going down lately.

First flight Published 16 November, 2016 | By Cilla Kinross I just got in ……One is off, I’m guessing Rubi.
Not a very elegant departure, so I’ll go and have a look around shortly. Not very elegant photos, either, such mucky pups!
And later:
At the time of writing, still two in the tower and one in the bushes. And thanks to Denis and Tiffany for helping me locate the wayward Rubi.
Thanks, Patsy! I just got the site to load for a minute, and it looks to me as if a second chick has fledged. I can only see one in the nest.

Hello Emily Falcon lovers, I had a lovely photo for you of Emily sitting looking into our window, with the nest site in the background... But, my phone went for a swim this morning, so I'm sorry, I can't post it! So, the update is.... One of the chicks was reported to the building manager as being on a lower balcony for several days. They phoned Ross Harrison (my handsome husband) and between them, organised for Australia Zoo to come out and see what was up. They arrived within an hour, and discovered it had a broken wing, so picked it up and took it back to their medical section. While they were here, we gave them permission to go through upstairs to check the nest site. The other two chicks were there with food from a kill, so seemed to be ok. Maybe that's what Emily was trying to tell me?! So at least we know that all three chicks are still around. Thank you for that update, Donna! I am glad the little fledgling was rescued, and hope he/she will be okay. I really liked that cam when the site was public.
