DC: a quick nest check and gone again.

When the cam came back up a few days ago, there was already a peregrine at the nest.

From a few minutes ago; she is a beauty.

The Jersey City cam is live again:

We visited 101 Hudson St. this week. We had to make changes to the local network upon restarting internet service. Everything turned on and started working right away. We went out on the roof check the nestbox and clean off the lens covers. The male was present (pictured above). Our camera consultant got a snapshot of the female, so she is around too. If you catch screenshots/photos, make sure to post to our Interaction page!

A very wet day in Jersey City:

Is this DC?
I think that may be Beauty, Annette. I'm sure someone will let me know if I'm wrong. Here is another pic from the same time frame:

That is very sad news. Coldilocks was a beautiful bear. I think it is also sad that during her long life, she never had a chance to know freedom, even for a short time.  Sad

At least one of the birds has been showing up at the nest frequently, and one has been sleeping on the perch attached to the nest box on many nights.

I found both at the nest one day:

There has been heavy flooding in the Lansing area. View from the nest box this morning:

I hope everyone, and all the birds, will stay safe.

The Great Horned Owl who visited this nest late last year has been back at least twice since then. Once, only the tail and wingtips were visible as the owl perched on the cam, but earlier this month the GHO showed up again around 6 p.m. one evening, and this was no short visit. The owl was still there at 2 a.m., and may have stayed all night.

These birds are beautiful in their own right, but they can be deadly to peregrines. I am afraid of what could happen when the resident peregrines return, which should be very soon. Sad
