140  Anything Else / Totally OT / Re: A trip to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge on: 05-Sep-10, 05:28:01 PM
Dana and I went there today (Sunday) and we did see what was either a juvie peregrine or a merlin while we were on Towpath Road. Didn't get a picture because it flew over our heads and over the woods behind us so quickly, but my guess is that it was Jemison. (okay - maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part). We saw a lot of Bald Eagles - an amazing number of them...at one point we saw four juveniles sitting on the ground about 50' apart. We also saw Ospreys, tons of Egrets, Herons, Comorrants and shorebirds including Greater and Less Yellowlegs. The rare find for the day was an Ibis.

MAK - glad to see your report. I remember the first time I saw an Eagle - it was a "Holy Cow - these things really do exist" kind of moment.  I love the Ospreys too. We had a pair that we could view in our area up until recently. They had a nest on top of a communication tower in Hilton but it was either blown down or removed off-season by the bastids at the phone company. Last weekend we saw the Ospreys at the Iroquois Nat'l Wildlife Reserve, but Montezuma has a much larger population. At any rate, we're lucky to be close to a few wildlife reserves to add on top of our city-falcon watching experience.

Absolutely, Annette! DO NOT OPEN THAT!!! Consign it to the Trash with all haste! It came in as Junk, right? Even things that look bona-fide are just plain rubbish. I think I have received this message recently too. And we keep getting some purportedly from our phone company - NOT! - telling us to update our data... I think I am right in saying that the true bank, phone company etc. would never send such an email. I am not savvy about much when it comes to the web, but I have learned to recognise this type of thing. So - better safe than sorry, Girlfriend! Dump it!!

(Also... check the English: Webmail is sometimes "webmail" and sometimes "Webmail". Also, it says "...your webmail will be disable" instead of "disabled". And "click the below link" - not "the link below". Dubious use of the language is always a giveaway!)

If true, Annette-you might consider modifying your post to eliminate the link - just to eliminate the possibility of someone in this forum accidentally clicking on it and getting crap on their computers. I believe the author can modify their own message after posting it.

Hey Lou!  Can you repost the link to your silly Watchers album?  You know the one I'm talking about.  I love that one and we could all use a laugh.   laugh

Good idea. I like reruns.  I can't remember exactly which one you are referring to. Is it one of these?

This one was from 2005. My early attempts at doing composites

The Grandma Gladys album has some watcher pix from 2007

The End of the 2007 Season party from 2007 had two albums. This one was serious and the other was made for Larry to make him feel better because he couldn't attend.

And there was this one of the Blackberry Brandy Queen this past winter.

Let me know if it was one of these. Thanks

2. biting, cutting, mordant, bitter, derisive, ironic, sardonic.

and why is the Fringehead considered to be sarcastic?  What does a fish have to do to be called sarcastic? I guess they do bite.  But what caused them to be bitter?  Did they lose a loved one and now they're just plain bitter?  I don't think they cut their food, since they don't have any hands to hold a knive.  Although they do have big mouths.  Maybe the other fish make fun of them and that's why they are bitter and sarcastic.  Hmmmm.  Things to think about.   silly

You're right Carol. Maybe they have every right to be sarcastic. Poor loveless, no-knived, big-mouthed, picked-on fringeheads.

Hey wait a minute. I think I'm a sarcastic fringehead.

147  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Jemison Looking Good In Her Flight Cage on: 09-Aug-10, 10:46:30 PM
That's the way I feel.  I was initially a little disappointed to hear that he wouldn't be brought back to Rochester for release, but I'm confident that the DEC and the rehabber have made the right decision.  Hopefully we'll be able to have a couple of people present at the release to document the event and take pictures.

I agree Jim. The decision has to be in the best interest of the falcon and shouldn't factor in local desire.

Appreciate the imprints post and the pictures. Looks like he's been well cared for.

What did the cute kitty cat say to the huge crashed NASA balloon?
Knock knock?

And speaking of knock knock jokes, have you checked out the annoying orange series?  His annoying laugh cracks me up.
