46  Rochester Falcons / Falcon Watches / Beauty and another in arial battle today 1/12/10 on: 12-Jan-10, 07:03:12 PM
Around 3 PM the sky was filled with kaking as 2 falcons fought near the nest box on the Times Square Building.  Alot of dive bombing and yelling.  The more aggressive of the two was obvious (hoping the other wasn't Mariah).  The aggressor declared victory within 5 minutes, and took perch on top of the torch in Mercury's hand where she (I believe it was Beauty) stayed for a few minutes more before touring the territorial terrain.  Any other locals catch it?

Hotel Peregrine or the Falcon's Nest B&B..."a nice flyover in the cold winter season".

Great photos!  At first sight, I thought the same thing - Mariah.  It's getting interesting round here.

She's nearby.  Last week she must have had lunch at the old City Hall right next to the nest box.  The back entranceway was COVERED in feathers and...well the leftover remnants of a dinner devine.  Didn't have the heart to tell my coworkers the truth when they started talking about cats!   2funny

Saw this on Facebook and remembered how one of the Rochester Falcons was found near here if my memory serves me correct?  FYI:

"A falcon flew by me today and perched on a tree as I walked by. I was about 4 feet away from it...the closest I've ever been to a bird like that.  It was actually on the UofR Campus. I only noticed it cause the local crows were squaking so loud...and of course it flying right by me helped."

Actually, Medley Center is slated for knockdown to make it into housing and mixed retail/office space.  You're right about the economy, but it's the first thing I thought of - Kodak, Midtown, St. Ann's, Medley Center...what's a falcon got to do to get a break around here?

So it WAS her Carol hanging out on that lamp post on 104!  It has to be!  It was right on the path, between Maplewood Park and Medley Center!  This area must be her new stomping grounds.

The falcon on the light as I told you in chat was too light to be a cooper or red tail, and too big to be anything else but Mariah!  This is REALLY, REALLY good news!

Carol,

If you recall, I told you last week? that I saw a large female perched on one of the light posts over 104 coming west inbound towards Greece.  I have seen her on the light posts right before you get to the Veteran's Bridge near Maplewood.

Maybe...? she has decidedly moved north in the Maplewood area?

That's the only photo they have.  They didn't post up the video from the story.  Carol's "eagle eye" can probably tell us more.  I don't see a band either.

It makes sense too, with the proximity of the bridge at Maplewood Park.  And she'd be far enough away from A/B and yet still within her "area".
