Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: My photos from July

So, as I'm working on the eagle album I realized I never finished labeling my pics from my July visit to Rochester...so I never posted a link to them. I can sympathize; I'm several months behind organizing vacation albums. Thanks for sharing!

Never trust a man who has been writing the same book for years and years! I have a bad feeling about this story!! I'm waiting for a punch line!! SHAKY!!! Wait...he already gave you not one, but two punch lines! "Freeze a jolly good fellow." Then, they kick him in the ice hole.

Thanks Paul, it looks like a nice cave. We enjoy touring caves, which is easy since we have both the Indiana and Kentucky cave countries within spitting distance. Mammoth Cave N.P. is one of those heavily toured, heavily marketed caves you talk about, but it's so enormous there are many tours offered, some of which are "historic", or by lantern light only, and have few participants. Their Wild Cave tour is one of the most strenuous things I've ever done (and I was in my early 30's when I did it) -- every muscle in my body was sore! We've also done plenty of trips to Mammoth Cave where we didn't bother going into the cave at all since the hiking, birding, and biking there is so good. One of my favorite experiences as a high school Girl Scout was an overnight in Southern Indiana cave called Marengo...sleeping bags just spread out on the cave floor. They turned the lights entirely out, so when you woke up in the middle of the night you were in utter darkness...and had to feel around for your flashlight if you needed to visit the latrine. Very cool.

Joe Kieper, an entomologist who is executive director of the Virginia Museum of Natural History, says they are swarms of either mayflies or midges...
Jeane and I got caught in a swarm of mayflies one day on a lunchtime walk along the Ohio River...we kept seeing a few bugs here and there, then suddenly there were hundreds! We had to shield our faces with our hands because they were smacking into us...eventually we passed through the swarm, but it was pretty disconcerting.

Thanks Donna, for posting some samples, and MAK, I could get to your sunset photos just fine, and haven't had a problem with any of your other links before today. I noticed that the ones that work have "media" in the URL, while the one that doesn't work uses a slightly different URL. I don't know what the difference is...
I see that Donna posted one of your Black Vultures, but that first one she sent that is a half & half vulture is pretty cool.
