Kendal is being so elusive, have not seen him since banding. Camera shy?

I actually saw all three of them together on the ledge VERY briefly earlier this afternoon!

Camera's zoomed in real close on Harlequin right now! Our camera people will try to move it now and then throughout the day.

Stay tuned. I think they're going to try to point the webcam at her and perhaps zoom in a bit! She's got a little tuftiness going on on her head now...punk rock girl!

I'll try to point Camera 1 at her. Might need a bit more zoom though. 

Well, she is on a south-facing ledge.  

...and she just flapped to the next ledge over!

Oh My!  Now we can 't see her at all.  You will have to keep us posted, Kat! 

Will do. I'm going to see if I can find out who's in charge of that webcam!

She's currently flapping away on the next section of ledge. Won't be long!

Ack! Just watched Harlequin hop onto the protruding bit and around to the next section of ledge! (She's sitting beside mom right now.) She'll be running around the whole building next!

Holy schmoly Harlequin's changed so much over the long weekend. I've been peeking in at her, but have to say, today I can't tell her from Quest! In any regard, just wanted to let y'all know that a few of us here at Harlequin have volunteered for the fledge watch and are expecting some training at some point this week. Feeling two ways about this! Don't want to see her fly away!

Quest just did a beautiful fly-by right outside my window. She really is a gorgeous thing, isn't she?

Thanks Kat, she doesn't seem to make a lot of noise, usually her beak is shut, except for this morning. I did her beak open quite a bit. 

Actually, I do see her beak open and close quite a bit. Our internal webcam stream is a bit more fluid than the one that you guys see. I think she's got a few things to say! But today she certainly made her presence known!

Kat, can you hear Harlequin kakking up on the ledge? Is she a noisy one? She doesn't seem to be whining too much from what I can see on cam.

Funny you should ask that! I haven't heard much, but this morning there was crazy loud screeching that I could hear through the windows over here in our building. I even went outside because I thought something was wrong, but turns out it was just Harlequin screeching for Quest. Probably past snack time!

Kat - You are officially a Falcon-mom now.  It never gets any easier I'm afraid and when Harlequin is ready to fledge, you'll be  

Remember, they are built for speed.  Their first flights are usually ok, but they tire quickly and they have no idea how to land.  We have seen many fledglings miss landings and hit windows and buildings and slide down roofs.  All you can do is keep an eye on her and help if needed.

My guess for a first flight will be directly at your building.  Are there ledges on your windows?  Someone may get a visitor.  If this happens, make sure everyone knows to not get too close to her.  It may scare her and force her to take off again before she's ready.  Once she lands (hopefully safely), she'll rest for a little while before trying again.  Thankfully there are not a lot of tall, glass covered buildings around you, like Rhea Mae's little ones have to deal with.
 
Quest and Kendal will attempt to get her to fly again, with fly-bys and food.  She will fly again, when she's ready.

After those first flights, she'll get stronger and learn to land on those big yellow feet.

I won't lie.  Watching a Peregrine fledge is not easy on the nerves, but it won't be long before she is flying strong, chasing mom and dad and snatching food from them mid-air.  It is so incredible to witness this.

Thanks so much for guiding me through this Carol! I'll be seeking the support of everyone here as I watch those first couple of attempts, no doubt! There are no ledges on our building, so hopefully she doesn't take a notion to fly toward us. Ack. Can't she just stay the way she is forever?!
