Whatever shrikes your fancy.

well, it's bittern nothing!

Oh, and you'll have to pay the bill, since they don't have pockets.

That's OK, they don't drink much.
On the other hand, they do have to passerine often.

url for that bird observatory: http://www.peptbo.ca/
I was favorably impressed by the 2 photos of a shrike.
It looks like a very reasonable and intelligent species.
I am thinking of inviting one out for a beer, if we get shrikes here.

Dana, there are so many things RIGHT about that coopers hawk sequence that I wouldn't know where to start. Fabulous interaction between the two, for starters...thanks SO much!

Ho! Generalized aggression and peevishness punctuated by drinking other people's bathwater and bathing in other people's drinking water! A fine time was had by all!

You should see the one where the osprey shows how to draw David Sibley. The resulting drawing looks more like Julia Child than Sibley, but to an osprey the two faces are indistinguishable.  Just as, to Sibley, the osprey he drew looks pretty much exactly like all its siblings and aunts and uncles.

Paul, I just loved watching both this terrific bird and the genuinely wonderful video documenting your time with her. The closeups of Tex apparently trying to get a fix on what you (her "family" of the moment) were up to were great. That is exactly how they attend to each other's movements when they hunt in a group. It was funny for me to see a Harris' in the snow, as the only ones I've ever seen were in the desert - but she sure didn't seem to mind! Thanks so much for sharing this.

front page article of the Chicago Sun Times today:  http://tinyurl.com/ye3thrf
This bird went south for the winter the hard way.  A Ferruginous hawk was apparently struck by a train in western Canada -- and then got stuck in the front plow of the train for 1,000 to 2,000 miles.  It was finally discovered when the Canadian Pacific Railway train pulled into a train yard in Franklin Park.  "It's absolutely amazing that he lived through it," said Dawn Keller, founder of Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, which operates rescue centers at Northerly Island, Itasca and Barrington.

Have a healthy and joyous New Year, everyone!
