301  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Re: Trailer about birds of paradise on: 25-Nov-12, 11:50:48 AM
thanks, Shaky! I thought I'd seen the thread and hadn't had time to watch the video, that's why I searched. I always have terrible luck with the search function, which is why I usually apologize in case someone else has already posted. To get better results, you say, I should run the search from the "Rfalconcam Forum" page?

I didn't see the documentary on this project, which aired Thursday on the National Geographic Channel, but here is a link to the absolutely mind-bending trailer:

If you scroll down on this page http://tinyurl.com/cxrq88s there is a terrific murmuration video, "falcon feeding frenzy," that features a peregrine getting all tangled up in them, hunting. Excuse me if this has already been posted.

What a remarkable woman, what an astonishing, fine example of a human being.
A person who, despite crushing challenges and burdens, shone, stumbled, screwed up, fixed it, thought, gave of herself generously and unimaginably open-mindedly to needy strangers and critters and actually did strive to pull for the very best in herself and others. A person who stood up for a better picture of the world even when she couldn't see one. And if sometimes she forgot to dance and laugh for a little while, she made up for it later with a childlike joy I could only admire.

What I just wrote is not an exaggeration. I told it to her. If you know someone like that, make sure they know you see that light and humanity and hope in them and that you cherish it, because these rare people do not get enough encouragement from the world -- their spirit is sometimes too busy being hopeful to be well-behaved and tidy and patient.

A widespread and common species throughout its large range, the Magnificent Bird-of-paradise is evaluated as Least Concern

LEAST CONCERN?
For mental health reasons maybe I wouldn't want to see too many all at the same time.

I can't believe how strong they are. Some of those were really huge fish.
Wish I could see what's going on underwater while the bird gets ready to pull those monsters out!

I'm shocked that Austin TX isn't at the very top.
There's this SCOURGE called cedar fever.
I couldn't believe it.

315  Anything Else / Totally OT / Re: 32 out-of-sync metronomes synchronize with each other by themselves on: 29-Sep-12, 10:25:14 AM
OK, thanks, Ei!!
That's what I was wondering - if some fuzzy initial majority created a movement of the table that in turn encouraged more metronomes to be timed as it was, which in turn increased the movement of the table.
very cool...
