I'm still trying to find the right "KAVER" picture for my next tattoo...

and now I'm thinking about how different Kaver pictures would look tattooed on different body parts.
Food for thought...;)

those are such odd images! The birds, of course, are incredible, but what strikes me is -- they don't look like photos, but like very meticulously-rendered illustrations!!  At least on my screen (hmmmm). I wonder why...could it have to do with the white background?
The blue-throated macaw and kestrel are my favorites.

It's a Ring-billed Gull.  They make up the main bulk of our gull population here in Toronto...
Anne C. (Toronto, ON Canada)

ring-billed, OK. I sort of figured that stripe on the bill wouldn't go unrecognized by a bird namer. It's a big part of the population here too, and they're really pushy; I've often competed with them for parking spots at the supermarket; they try to land right THERE, right THEN. At the lake there are a lot of terns and other things though, as well as these monsters.

what kind of gull is that? Around here, "common-or-garden" variety. I was feeding some the other day; they bark like dogs at each other. Ill-tempered, brilliantly white varmints.

...didn't even have their eyes open yet!

must've had a choice - eyes open once or mouths cranked open twice. they opted for the latter.
willya look at those pieholes.  thanks, Ei!

Gee, if we had a vuvuzela, we might not need walkie talkies

If you had vuvuzelas, you wouldn't need walkie-talkies, because the falcons would have headed for the hills and there'd be nothing to discuss.

Just sharing a couple of funny videos on the subject of the vuvuzela.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-Ln_rqPpPk   Lou

That's funny - I had watched about ten (out of hundreds) of those Hitler videos on different topics, some pretty amusing, but then I read that there had been a major copyright scandal around the use of that film clip and that there were to be no more Hitler spoofs using that scene.
I guess there are anyway! Nice silly one.

darn, my computer just refuses to load that video. Want to see it.

Thinking about harpy eagles, though, always reminds me of hawk-headed parrots. I had the fortune to play with one at Omar's Exotic Birds in Orange County once. WOW.

We had a member of the old board, used the screen name Timely Writer; his real name was Joe - he was a really nice guy. You may remember we found out that Joe passed away at some point.  He had one - I think actually it may have been his second.  I just found that a picture of his hawk-headed parrot (he got it somewhere in NJ, he said) is still on the internet:

...we checked into the hotel, and I got him out of his carrier, and put his cute little stud pants on him.  He dove under the bed, emerged from the other side sans pants, and promptly hopped up on a chair and HOSED the curtain...<G>

hahahahaha GREAT story, Carol!!  Metaphor for life itself, huh? :))   -dale

I cannot permit people ...

Hi, Peter, and welcome to the forum!!  Please note in my original question my unbridled admiration for the photo, the bird, etc. The person who posted the link and who answered me had also clearly been struck by the beauty of the photo and the stunning bird. I don't think anyone cared much about whether the image had been doctored (though it is good to know that it was not in the least diddled with -- "diddled" being ancient Sanskrit for "Photoshopped"). I was fascinated by the bird and wondered what color it was in nature!  I am a painter and am fairly sensitive to color, aware of how computers alter the way colors appear, and was struck by the impression of blue. It may have been my screen angle or an afterimage from a warm-colored painting I had been looking at. In any case, the exchange was obviously in admiration and awe, and light-spirited, as I try hard to be, as often as possible, given the severity of so much of the world around us. I'm glad to have the opportunity to thank you personally for your wonderful photographs!

what a wonderful, wonderful video and how sad to lose such a terrific character!

Also, I have to say - what a whole LOT of falcon that is in one space!!!
The only thing more startling than the sheer density of peregrine in there is the utter profundity of their cluelessness. He has no idea what happened, they have no idea what's going on...none!

btw, the first minutes of the video -- that way birds have of turning their heads to train one eye on something - anyone who has had a parrot has enjoyed watching it do that -- sometime try, in a nice restaurant, when they bring you your plate, looking down at it as if you have eyes on the sides of your head. It's highly entertaining.

Thanks again so much for the link!  Poor guy...

I had never known much about Nick Drake, but then a while ago I heard a long story about him on NPR that included interviews with family, etc. The NPR archives have a bunch of stuff available to listen to.

Absolutely wonderful documentation, Lou!!! Thanks so very much. What a great thing to be able to see exactly what happened!
