"Screech Owl who was caught and carried around by the wing by a dog. Amazingly enough, there were no broken bones. He is missing his tail feathers and had a small puncture wound on his wing. He is recovering in our ICU. When he is well enough he will be moved into a large outdoor flight cage with other Screech Owls."
Our rough collie, Ceili, was wandering around the "acreage" one day when she came dancing up, as usual. But... something did not look right. Sure enough - she had a Pied Wagtail in her mouth. Not hurting it. Not biting down... just carrying it around! I called her over, made her sit, and I extracted the bird without protest from her. No bother, no probs... just very bright little bird eyes looking at me. He/She was fine and flew off, none the worse for the unscheduled trip.
What a good dog!
