I saw Cadence at the main cam; at the same time on the still Cam 2  I saw from the insideof the next box at the corner of the deck a juvie and didn't see enough of it to see any bands. Is Genesee still around?   Christiane

Ah, yes, now I see where it could have looked like two were there.  It was just one, though.  Genesee was still around as of Monday, at least.

No, it's Cadence next to the main cam.  She gave us a good look at the blue tape on her right band.  

I enjoyed seeing the Great Egret who visited the Genesee River in downtown Rochester for several weeks last summer.  They're not unknown in these parts, but I think they're seen pretty rarely here. 

Interesting. I had no idea turtle doves are considered to be vulnerable.  Very soon the second verse of the Twelve Days of Christmas could become outdated.  Scary. 

Here are some amazing shots of a sulphur-crested cockatoo attacking Beau at the nestbox back in April. 

Apparently Swift and Beau have been displaced from their nestbox at Charles Sturt University.  That is sad.  I so hoped they could have a successful clutch there after their many struggles.

Reliable observers around campus have informed me that our couple are now officially ‘joined’.  As with Beau and Swift, this occurred right on the top of the water tower (where we don’t have a camera, alas), which is interesting as few birds are so obvious in their intimate behaviour!

Diamond has been doing some scraping, sometimes in our ‘usual’ scrape, but often all over the box, including in some areas out of view of the cameras (oh, no, PLEASE, don’t do that to me!).

Bula has been doing the right thing and bringing in lots of choice food items.  Unfortunately, these are usually plucked and half-eaten prior to their arrival in the nestbox in a pretty sorry state, so I haven’t got ANY identification (but lots of probably useless photos).

The snow has all gone, except up the mountain and the weather is cool and rainy, with foggy mornings.  Clearly this doesn’t hamper their hunting ability.

Expect the next few weeks to be very busy, with lots of food bringing and scraping and straining, before hopefully some nice healthy eggs in August.

I've been thinking lately about how fortunate we've been to be able to see Billie, granddaughter of Mariah and Kaver, grow from a very young five month old juvie to an adult and now to a first time mom.  Here's a side by side view of her.  The pic on the left was taken by Dana in October of 2013 at the Coast Guard Station radio tower and used to ID her for the first time, and the pic on the right was taken by MAK this past Sunday at Seneca Towers.  What a lovely young falcon she is.  We're also very fortunate to have some very dedicated watchers who are very talented photographers!
