Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Thoughts on the loss of young raptors

In some ways I imagine it may be harder and lonelier for long distance cam watchers when a loss is suffered. Very true...having no one to share it with is tough. I tried to tell one person why I was a sobbing mess when we got the news about Bronx and they just didn't get it...no, he wasn't just a bird... We will all share on Watchers Weekend.

Thanks, Ei. The loss of Bronx has been very hard indeed. Those of us here in Rochester have been lucky to have each other these past few days. For me, fledge watching has helped. In some ways I imagine it may be harder and lonelier for long distance cam watchers when a loss is suffered. I am glad I don't watch that osprey cam.

Does she ever flap her wings since being in Wilder? Could she be injured? Just strange she won't fly. Kris, there was a tweet from Patty at about 1:30 today that said Cadence was doing "lots of winging on Wilder." She did some winging and walking on that yellow building on State Street on Monday night as well, so I am assuming her wings and legs are okay. She's had a few scares and has even done a stint in juvie jail, so maybe her instincts are telling her she may have fledged a bit too soon, and she is just slowing down until her strength catches up.

And a shout out also to the worker at the Times Square Building who found Bronx and moved him to the well next to cam 1, where he would be safe, protected and watched until the people from the DEC could come and get him.

I'm glad our watchers are not at the Brighton site on a regular basis anymore. From today's Democrat & Chronicle:
A man was found dead in a wooded area near the (name of Brighton site) on Elmwood Avenue Wednesday.
The unidentified man was found by a maintenance worker who noticed a tent in a secluded area of property near Gateway Road, Capt. Tony McMullen of the Rochester Police Department said.
There were no obvious signs of foul play, he said, and police are investigating.
