Male in Dana's photo is banded, I see a black band. Now in the photo it looks like it's on the right leg which is wrong for DC but could be the way he's standing - that may be his left leg and he's stretching it out. Or could be a new male with a black band on opposite leg - it happens. Need to see more of him and he's turned so hard to say which leg I'm looking at for sure. The hood looks more like it might be DC though than that full black cap bird I saw the other day.
Yep, I see the black band. And I think it MAY be his left leg.

Beauty looks a bit rough. Molting, maybe. Yes, it's molt time for her. Females will molt after the nesting season so they aren't impaired while they are raising kids. That's how I understand it anyway. Someone smarter than me can probably explain the process better No need to explain. She molts every year around this time.

He looks a bit of a mess every year around the same time in the same area - he's molting I believe.
Agreed. Dot has always been a messy molter. He does have some damaged feathers on the back of his head that we first noticed the year he had 2 nests. Those are even more prominent when he molts. He may have some on the front too. I'm not so sure. The rest of him doesn't look messy, and his forehead has been like that for two weeks now. Anyway, he seems to be fine.
